How Huge is Kitty?

I actually measured his length today but have never weighed him (He's heavy though!). So I guess I don't really know the answer ...
He is 17 and 3/4 inches long and BEEFY!
Haven't posted a picture of him in awhile, so here are a couple.

I wish they had the smarts enough to move when they get hot enough to burn.

The babies are adorable. How old are they now?

Bummer. I thought it was different now. I know how it feels, my ch Meller's somehow just burned himself under the same 40 watt bulb he's always had. So far he's lost part of his right lobe and looks to lose more on the other side, too. It just makes me feel sick. :(

Almost 3 months.
I am moving both baby groups into 18x18x36" enclosures this week.
They are starting to annoy each other in the baby cage.

funny name for such a big tough looking chameleon!

whats the story with his name? is he one big pussy cat of a chameleon? lol

Looks good Brad! :)
Wouldnt maintaining a greater distance between the basking spot and the heat source,
than generally deemed desireable, and allowing the animal to simply bask longer, as I do, for this reason, be a sensible option?
Burns are one thing that terrify me, shock and systemic infection kill more herps than the burn itself, and from my breif experience, chams are not the smartest herps. :)
Goes to show, long experience isnt everything, we all screw up from time to time.
Daily observation and diligence to detail are important.

Something to remember next time you give a noob a hard time, because you see them do something outrageously stupid. :D

Oh, Jo

Kitty's problem was that the basking spot was too far away for his liking, so he climbed the screen to get right underneath.
I have never used more than a 40 watt household bulb for basking and I do rest them on top of the enclosure.
It was my fault because I knew he did this and I didn't rig the light differently, but I didn't think a 40 watt would cause an issue and I would place my hand on the screen to check the heat daily during my chameleon chores and observation.

Find a thread where I was "hard" on a noob and post it please ... I will apologize for helping.

That wasn't referring to you Brad, it was general.
Too far away, too close, no difference in the result was there. Your hand is NOT a reliable thermometer Brad, your a warm blooded mammal.
The reason I posted was that when the long time owner/breeder of chams, and creator of the website your a member of, burns the very animal his own 'Gospel' status blog is about the care of, the irony is too glaring not to learn a valuable lesson from!
