basically i looking to buy a panther chameleon and have researched it basically till i know it all by heart , but one thing i totally stuck on is the enclosure , a complete mesh one just wont work i dont think as when i am misting i suppose it will soak my walls which i dont think my partner will be happy about me destroying her decoration , so i was going to use a wooden vivaruim and add extra vents to increase flow the vivaruim i was going to buy has 4 vents as standard on back all of them 65mm , if i could use a woodern one how many vents would i have to add to make it ok , also i hear you can take one of the glass doors and replace it with a mesh one , how would i go about this im pretty handy , i have also heard of people removing the woodern top of the viv and replacing it with a mesh top, how much of this is myth and how much is fact , as im sure i am in the right place to find out once this is solved i can become a keeper which i am very excited about.

Where abouts do you live? It is hard to answer cage questions sometimes without knowing climate???

What about screen with platsic on three sides to keep the spray in or you could do wood but have the front and the top screen that would be good too.:)

the uk i would say the room it will be located in has a low room temperature around 20 c or 66 -68 f at its coldest maybe a little lower but i will provide emergency heating to make sure there is a minimum level for sure , hope this helps , im new to chameleons but not new to reptiles or amphibians

i thought about screening some parts of it but i trying to find advice how to go about it but finding it difficult to find some real grade A stuff , but least i know other people think the same way as me

We have lots of UK members here-they will chime in soon with some good advice. It is more common there to use glass, here in most parts of the states we use completely screened cages.

ahh ok see i getting closer i have been looking at a lot of peoples set ups some amazing set ups and some amazing chameleons , i been looking for glass but jsut seem to small i will carry on looking and wait for some good replys thank you for your help

I'm in the uk. I have a mesh viv but it has bamboo screening on the back.

When we're misting, we point it downwards and we've had no problems.

Here's a pic of my viv which is from Terry Thatcher

is it full mesh ,front tpo sides and back? and ok so you just put bamboo screening on the back to reduce it

yeah, full screen with an aluminium frame.

It's just the back that is screened with the bamboo - we put it up mainly because part of the viv backs onto a large mirror.

We hold the mister more or less at the top of the viv and point it downwards onto the plants etc.

I built my own had a wooden back and meshed everything else. Mines sits in my front room. As long as you dont treat your mister like a fire hose you will be fine just always have it pointing to the back and change your angle rather than the misters..
