I have a male panther chameleon. I recently bought him back in February, I am not sure how old he is but his body is about the size of my middle finger. I have seen a couple of things a couple weeks ago that have worried me about him. Like I came home from work and he had some dark stuff under his eyes and he had this gooey saliva in the corners of his mouth when he opened it. When I seen that I talked to the man I bought it from and he explained that it could be from one of the crickets I fed him. He told me to bring him in so he can look at it and then that next day he stead so there was nothing on his face any more and the saliva was a little better. I still brought him in to the shop for him to look at him and he said he looked healthy and he was showing good color and his eyes were bulging. Then last week I was misting him and I noticed that he had what looked like a piece of skin in his eye. So my boyfriend picked him up and helped him get it out. Then next day I saw it again so we did the same he got it out and he seemed fine after that he has been eating and drinking like normal and he is very active. Then yesterday I got home from work and I went to mist him and noticed that his eye lids were closed his eye was still opened but the cover under was closed then when I went to pick him up he got really mad and puffed up and hissed at me so I left him alone. I have never seen him do any thing like that before then later on I checked on him and he had one of his eyes opened and the other one looked like it had something sticky in it but I couldn’t tell and he wouldn’t let me pick him up and I don’t want to stress him to much. I not sure what happened or what the problem is. This is my first time owning chameleons and I am having a hard time finding out good information. If some one could help me out I would greatly appreciate it any help!

Cage Type – screen/16 by 16 by 36
Lighting – I have a tube UV light that is on for 12hrs a day and I have a heating bulb that is keep on all the time. We have a really cold house so that is what the man at that shop recommended to us.
Temperature – I’m not sure what the temp. is but it warmer during the day and cooler at nights. I know the sun hits the room in the morning we have the heating lamp on the top of the cage so it’s warmer in the top of the cage
Humidity – again I not sure. I mist him in the morning before I go to work, then in the after I get home, and once more before I go to sleep
Plants – I have a live plant a ficus.
Location – It is in a room by it self. I have him next to a window there is a vent but we don’t run the air or heater in our house.

Feeding – I feed him 25 crickets every three days. I usually get him phoenix worms once in a while, the man that I bought him off of suggested for me to feed him wax worms.
Supplements – I use a calcium supplement that I put on my crickets every time.
Watering – I use a dripper I leave it on when I go to work every other day and I mist him
Fecal Description – he has normal droppings as usual but more times than usual
History – I gave a history of him above

OK-Big problem to not know your temps. You could be cooking him or freezing him. They need light out at night. It is better to heat the room then the cage, but if temps don't drop below 60F he will be fine. They need the temp drop. Run to get a thermometer-a digital one with a probe. Temps are crucial to these animals. Can you give brand names of the UVB light and the supplement?

That's OK-when you get home it is just helpful info to know. Some lights have caused conjunctivitis and that may be an issue. I wouldn't pull things out of his eyes without consulting a Vet. You should be using a vitiamin supplement like Herptivite a few times a month, a calcium without D3 several times weekly and a calcium with D3 a few times monthly. I hope all turns out OK. I would get a thermometer as soon as possible. You would be suprised how far off you can be guessing temps! He sounds very young to go too high.

Dont mist him right before you go to bed either, the cage needs to be dry overnight and not damp/wet when the temps go down at lights off. You should have at least an hour of light and heat inbetween your last misting and bedtime for the little guy.
I know that doenst really do anything for your original problem, but I don't want to be redundant from what Julirs has already been telling you
