I should not have gone on kijiji

So today I went on Kijiji to see lots of ignored chameleons, mainly veiled trying to be sold so the owners can get rid of them. I saw it all, glass enclosures, waterfalls, water dishes, substrate. So many neglected babies. I wish I could take them all home but most of them are 3-5 hours drive away and I don't even have a car. I have sent out many emails to the people asking for them to come to me. It's so sad to see them treated like this. My advice to you, stay away from Kijiji.

Yeah, it is very discouraging when you see how many poorly cared for chameleons are out there. I have emailed people before to tell them what they are doing wrong (nicely of course) and also giving them a link to this forum. Can't say whether anyone listened, but at least I felt like I did something.

One of my guys is actually a Kijiji "rescue". He was 5 when I got him (guy was trying to claim they lived to be 20!), and had been kept in an all plexiglass tank with only one stick leaning up one corner, and a few small plants down on the ground. AND, he was kept in a dark, musty basement his whole life - had never been near a window, never mind outside. He also had a mild case of MBD. Anyhow, he is doing well, spent many hours outside in the sun this summer and is a big sweetheart.

I get where you're coming from. If I had the time, money and space, they're be a lot more chameleons in my house!

I may or may not have agreed to take on 2 more!! I am crazy I know, but I can have 2 chameleons for less than it cost me for my panther from the petstore.(I don't want to think about vet bills right now lol)

Well, I know it could potentially be expensive, but I think you're doing a wonderful thing for those poor chams. They are living, feeling creatures that deserve a decent life. I am sure if/when I have more room, I will be trolling Kijiji looking for more chams that need help

Good luck if you end up getting them!

I've never heard of kijiji. I guess it's like craigslist? I browse through CL about once a week and take in chameleons and other lizards from time to time.

Never heard of it either and now don't care to! Thanks for the heads up!! I am staying clear. What I don't know won't hurt me!
