Is it just me or does her leg look swollen

No and yes. The airway is in the front of the mouth, so you want to aim down the back of her throat. Depending on how much you need to give at one time should determine speed. I’m never really sure of how much is too much at one time, so I try not to give more than around 0.2-0.3 ml per squirt. Tramadol is good stuff.
Ok thanks for the advice!

So this is sort of what they told me to do.

How exactly would you guys suggest giving her oral meds to the back?

I can only tell you what I do. With my veileds, I gently hold their casque and as soon as they open their mouth in protest, I squirt the med in towards the back of the throat. Speed is key, as if you hesitate too long or fail the first time, they will hold their mouth shut tight. I use gravity to make extra sure that the med runs down the throat.

Oh! I’ve often seen an image of a Cham mouth anatomy where it shows throat vs airway but I can’t seem to find it. Does anyone have a graph or something like that?

Of course!
Red is airway, blue is throat. :)

just an update. I’m giving her meds later today. Would you say a chameleons mouth anatomy is similar to a snakes when it comes to windpipe and throat?

Also sorry for just being confused. I took a video of the vet assistant giving the meds and they said something about chameleons mouths being similar to ours with the windpipe and throat being around the back behind the tongue. Also keeping the meds right at the front of the mouth would avoid aspiration.

So I’m just kind of confused and trying to get an absolute answer if this is wrong or right info and to stop questioning myself lol.

Oh no, love. I may be wrong, but I think most if not all reptiles, including snakes, have their airway in the front of their mouth...definitely chameleons do. Think about how they eat…especially snakes. Snakes will have that big rodent or whatever going down their throats and it takes time to get it down. If their airway was like ours, they’d be suffocating every time they eat. I don‘t know why your vet thinks otherwise. I’m going to guess they don’t know so much about chameleons/reptiles. :(

Thank you for the definitive answer! The vet himself seemed to know his stuff but the assistant on the other hand….
I have a few suspicions that they are the same one that got the weight wrong last time.
Thank you so much for the information and understanding! I’ll let you know how giving the medication goes!

The vet I took Grumpy to was the other reputable and experienced chameleon vet in Orlando, so I was expecting very good things. I was so deeply disappointed and even angry when the first things they were telling me was to put her in a closed bin of warm water, sitting on a heating pad for about an hour to hydrate her. They really stressed to me that I need to do that even though I just listened and didn’t say a word about it. How many poor little chameleons have been almost literally boiled by this misinformation?! Anyhow, this is strictly and exotics vet and I’ve heard such fantastic things about how great, knowledgeable and skilled they are...but they told me to basically almost boil my poor little chameleon. Maybe that’s the only area that they suck…I dunno. Aside from that, although we only had the one visit and they delivered the bad news about my girl and then delivered her to heaven, I had no other complaints.

Luckily due to one of my classes I am able to talk to a former vet with a little experience in exotics so I asked her for her opinion and it pretty much line up with what you guys are saying, putting meds further back in the mouth as possible to keep it away from the airway.

Ok! It was a success (I think)
I got her out of her cage on a branch and she was so mad!!! Hissing and giving me all the opportunities. So I got the syringe with medication a squirted it into her mouth. She swallowed and I let her back into her cage. I think that was good!

Great! 💗 I love that first pic…if looks could kill!😂
Oh man I have a photo where she was giving the worst stink eye!
Here we were getting done with the vet and she was a little cold. Man she murdered me with her eyes
I could just hear her say, take me home and go away

Also I feel like those meds are already helping, maybe not the swelling but her in general, her colors are a little more relaxed today and yesterday.

Not sure if this would work with your medication but so far all the meds that I’ve had to give to my chameleons have been a thicker liquid. I’d carefully out that on a work and feed it to my cham. They get all the meds and a treat, no risk of getting the med in their airways and it’s not a stressful situation for them…or me. Might work for you possibly as well?

Hoo boy! That is some look she’s giving. I’d be making sure her enclosure door is well closed before going to sleep. 😂

Ok day 2 of medication. still as scary as last time. I think again I managed to give the medication right. Although she sat like this for a second after I put her back in her cage. Is that normal? She’s not going the position anymore

Also super angry again

As for the swelling. From what I can see there is no change
