Is my Panther a boy or a girl?!?!

Looks female to me. You cannot always go by color on young Panthers-it is much safer to go by tail base. Check out this pretty female-

yeah but her tail has the earthy orange tone to it, thats how I could tell.

Ok so I just took some more pics of her. These pictures were just taken 5 minutes ago, about 4 weeks after the first pics i posted. So she is about 2 1/2 months old now. But see how the base of her tail is thicker than it was before?

Thanks for all the input guys. Tell me what you think about these new photos..

I think a lot of people have gone to sleep....the Super Bowl seems to tire Americans out (I'm an American on the west coast and am about to go to bed).

Whether your baby is a boy or a girl, it's really cute. Both the chameleon's I've bought have been adults and I sort of miss the baby phase...I mean..how adorable is that???

From what I understand there are some chameleons that cannot be sexed until they are fully mature.

I would guess your best bet is to keep it separate from other chameleons until you can get a definite sexing.

Okay so we have 6 saying female and 4 saying male... hmmm. Im stil not sure either. I got her to be the girlfriend of my male. Heres a picture of him..

You're going to cross them? Just so you know you may have to keep the females that you produce, cross girls dont usually sell well.

EDIT: Well, I guess you can't if its a male...

How did I miss this sexing thread:rolleyes: Hehehehe. I just saw this and I could tell it was a male from the first set of pics. The second set confirms this also. He also looks much better in the second set of pictures. I thought he looked a bit thin in the first set. Looks like you are doing a great job with him. Keep up the good work:)

pshhh- I plan on crossing them if this little one turns out to be a female. I know some have their hang ups about it but I wont get into that here, you do bring up a good point about the females not selling for much. I bought the little one from a pet shop in Vegas and after including the money I won at the roulette table, I only spent about $60 on her/him. So if it turns out to be a male, then great Ive been wanting to slip a Nosy Be pass my wife for a while ;) If its a female then it will be good experience while Im still going to college and cant spend the time to get into a big breeding project right now.

Cainschams-I appreciate your input, and I think I agree with you. When it extends its tail out the base of the tail bulges out very slightly. Haha it seems like I took a gamble in Vegas and lost ;) but hey one more cham is never really a loss right? Yeah I think he looks alot better too. The pet shop I got him from had 2 clutches in a big cage up by the window. They all looked pretty dry and spindley. He used to nap all the time when I got him and now never does.

Jeanjacket812- I got him from Exotic pets in LV

After reviewing the new evidence I'm changing my vote to male. The second set of pics makes 100% difference. The tail base and the colors are def male. While the colors are obviously not the best indicator with a thick tail basae as shown in the second set of pictures it's most likely a male. I'm going with 98.7% sure.

Please tell me you're going to a) wait for the little one to get bigger before even attempting a mating and b) be very careful and first show them to each other before putting one in the other's cage.

That little one is way too little to be anywhere near that big chameleon...he's absolutely beautiful by the way.

Please don't just put the new (no longer little by this time) one in the cage....let them see each other before hand to get a feel for whether they are welcoming of the other. I'm not 100% sure the "male vs. female" debate will have died down by then!

I know you don't want to believe this of your beautiful chameleon...but if he feels threatened by a new male in his cage, he could kill it...in fact, there could be a battle that ends badly for both....

I've never introduced a male to a male's cage, but I stupidly put a female in a male's cage and my previously sedate, slow moving chameleon was on her in a heartbeat and he was MEAN! Biting, clawing...just nasty. And, that was a chameleon he as happy to see!

Nice looking male!!

Everything about those pictures screams female to me! Give it another month and then post new pics.

this is a definate female! i received a nosey be panther not too long ago (couple months) and it was a male. he had more of a blue gray tone yet his colors arent full developed..
