i keep mine inside, when i had that huge outdoor patio thing turned into a cage it was a nightmare for jacksons (heat is the number one killer in my book, that and dehydration) its easier kept inside with cooler temps (its easier to control the cage temps when its cooler in the house), and i usually coverd the back and sides with painters plastic sheeting (or you could use plastic wrap im sure)..as of now im building a small set up for a jacksons that will be making its way to me when he is ready thanks to camimom (love ya!!), so im in the middle of setting it up like you are..:D

im so excited, its been at least 10 years since i had a jacko!!

Welcome! hehe... im so excited.. this is my first jackson!

i think i might have to keep a fan going...my house gets super hot during the summer and super cold a night

basically too hot for my taste is around 75ish ambient, thats usually what they bask under (73-78) and at night i let them cool to 60 ish (more like 65, but they can easily take cooler)

like camimom said, whats your version of really hot and cold??

how hot is super hot?
and you may be able to get away with a very low watt basking bulb.

summers is 90s sometimes 100s
winters as low as 40
my room usually stays cooler more like 80-90 because i leave the window open and a fan blowing out

Then I would leave a fan on, not blowing on him, but so that the air aroud him cools off... and a very low low wattage basking bulb, if id use one at all.

and at night, id probably get a ceramic heat emitter, no light, but warm enough to get the temps to mid 50's or 60's.

correct me if im wrong but from my understanding is that jacksons dont need to bask as much as other reptiles?

they still neeed to bask.. theres no time lenght for it. they just like cooler temps.. thats all.
some days my chams do nothing but bask, other days they cruise everywehre they can get their feet on. which includes my ferret cage, my blinds, the shelf in the closet.. lol. (they arent caged)

i wish i could free rage! but im afraid id lose poor little linus, he's soo small :( and once i redo my room in green, ill never find him! :p

ceramic heat may be usefull for that..maybe put it on a temp controller so it will turn on or off as needed to keep it around 65 at night..as for daytime, those are death temps for jackos..definatley!!, you will need an airconditioner or some type of cooling system, it will just be unbareable to them at 80+ ambient constantly, also with the jacksons cage in your room, with all the spraying and humidity needs it may boost your temps up at least 5 degrees on top of what you are already used to..hell i turn off the basking lights for my panthers when my room makes it to 80..you will need a way to keep it a lil cooler in your room (not just for your chams, for you too!! i could not live in that heat....it would be like ace ventura in that robot rhino..."WARM!!"):D

any chameleon will bask as much as they need to, they know what their temps should be, if they get cold, they will bask, if they get hot they go to a cooler part of the cage, or, in the case of a jackson's, they will gape (sit there with mouth open) to vent out and get cooler, which normally means the overall temp is too hot and should be cooled off somehow. a chams gotta do what a chams gotta do B)

i guess i can only try to keep the temps around 80 for them during the winter

you can let it drop ambiently for winter (also helps them know what season is going around)like say 68-75 for winter times..i use a small fish light for mine when its real hot but give them a basking point just in case.. they are the long kind normally not over 25 watts (mine is a 15 watt) not very warm, but offers a warmer spot that the rest of the cage..
