is the idea to have the uvb on one side and the basking on the other?
you can let it drop ambiently for winter (also helps them know what season is going around)like say 68-75 for winter times..i use a small fish light for mine when its real hot but give them a basking point just in case.. they are the long kind normally not over 25 watts (mine is a 15 watt) not very warm, but offers a warmer spot that the rest of the cage..

i put my uvb acrossed the whole top covering the whole cage, and basking light usually on one side tilted just a tad to point at a slight angle rather that straight down..
yes, that is best, chameleons differentiate uvb and heat differently...so you dont want them trying to soak up uvb and getting too hot in the process..i have my basking spot in a corner, and my uvb along a side, my guy will crawl around on the top and go from basking spot, to uvb, to basking, uvb and so on, he's a character
lol 2 different answers but apparently both work
Which is why i said to overlap.. lol.
that way one corner has uvb, one corner has basking,
but the middle has both.
and sdheli uses a tube, so it of course goes across whle cage.
i bet amanda uses a cfl, or has it turned, so it only shines on one side of the cage.
its a personal preference/ what your cham wants/needs type deal.
i use a tube, but its set near the back but yea, overlap, listen to this person ^
ok thanks
im thinking about going with just a sub-adult male, but $50 for a female is a hard price to find
with our help you can do it..
im going to hold you to that...lol
i think my best bet would be to divide the cage that im having built into 2 12x24x48 enclosures with some sort divider (havent thought of what to use yet. maybe astro turf, or plexiglass)

the breeder said that subs are 3-5 and adults are 6-10
i would be getting the adult pair
dang its too late...my friend already built the frame and i believe fiber glassed it (minus the fiber) he can only do small touches to it now
i guess i could have him make another
