Lethargic & poor grip

Sad to hear about Cham Dude!
IMO something (longterm) was wrong with it when you bought it, possibly infection from the burn) .
Dont let this destroy your confidence in Cham Keeping.

Advice: Always buy as young as possible (unless you know and implicitly trust the breeder) and know what to look for in a healthy animal of any age (though outward signs of illness are rarely apparent in reptles till quite severe).
By buying young you lessen the chances of inheriting problems from poor husbandry by the last keeper, which I think happened in your case.

research some more and when your ready buy a new (Young) cham. Best wishes

Thank you all. I have decided to buy another and will be taking your advice and buying a young one. Not sure when this will happen as I have a few other money commitments to resolve first.

I'll have to read up on caring for young ones and no doubt I'll have a few more questions soon.

I haven't told the previous owner as I know he'll be even more devistated as he really didn't want to part with him but had no choice. I know he's read this forum a few times and if you're reading this then I am really sorry but I'm 99.9% sure it's nothing we did wrong. He seemed so happy prior to Monday morning and his strange behaviour early on in the day seemed to indicate something he was seeing was upsetting him, not an indication of something more serious. :(

i can give you the details of the breeder i got my cham from in Southampton (if you fancy the drive!). We paid £35, got to see all his chams, and got to handle the babies and choose the one we wanted. He is a very healthy boy (the cham not the breeder!) and has just had his 3rd shed in 6 weeks. My first cham was sick when we got her (we obviously didn't know) and the difference is amazing.

Thank you but that's a bit far. I know of a reptile shop in Bham that has bred some, so we'll look there first when we have the money.
