a few months ago I purchased a panther chameleon from a local pet store... he wasn't looking so well so I felt bad and have provided him with a good home. I haven't owned a panther chameleon before and was curious of what colors I might see from him in the future. The pet store had no idea where he came from so I was wondering if you guys had any ideas of what kind of panther he is.

You actually have a female panther. Determining the local is virtually impossible as the females don't show the colors like the different males will. I would also make sure you adjust anything in her cage if necessary as she can and will develop eggs even without breeding so make sure she has a laying bin in her cage. She is beautiful btw!

Thanks for your quick reply! I'm actually really surprised that it's a she! Everyone on here said when I first got her that it was a male. But she was very small in my opinion to young to be sold @NHenn

I am not an expert . NHenn would know way more than me definitely a female and to me it looks like for the locale is a ambanja possible. But again that's just a guess

It can't be hard to tell when they are younger and view pictures online makes it really hard at that age. Sometimes it takes seeing them in person to be 100% sure but now that she is older it makes it easier to tell from just pictures. Also, from the images it looks like she might have a cut on her lip. I would grab her and get her to gap at you so you can see inside her mouth and lip line. She might have a cut that needs to stay clean in order to heal and doesn't get infected as this can be a common issue with chameleons. It could just be a piece of a feeder as well so I would check it out to make sure all is okay with her.

I've noticed this and I tried your approach but she won't open her mouth at all even when I put my hand in the enclosure... is there a better way to get them to open up? @NHenn
