Lost colour?

Anyone had this before where your cham loses colours? Basically male ambilobe was getting a gorgeous set of reds on him and looking really good then winter hit and his cage was redone to keep him at his temps etc
But he seems to have lost his red. If he goes any colour its more yellow green whereas before red use to pop! Now no red at all

Any ideas why? He eats mainly locusts with repashy calcium+ every other day and just plain calcium nod3 everyday. Nothing a changed much except his cage I've rearranged a few times

this actually happened with my ambanja hybrid as well.. he used to be really green and blue, now hes brown and ugly... if anyone has an answer that would be awesome.. sorry i couldnt help.

This is what he used to look like

Guys, your chameleons are still beuutiful even with the darker coloring. Well I am no expert, but the darker colors deff mean something is stressing them.

Questions I'd like to ask to help people help you (they will come I promise)

A. Are they always dark in color? Like when you walk into the room go right up and look at them. If they stay dark all day, I'd be concerned.

B. Is there a chance they could be too hott/cold? Proper watering (dripper) and misting?

How is their appitite? Do they show that they are scared of you when you open the cage??

I dont mean to sound snappy or rude. Your chamelons look like they have greay enclosures and healthy in weight. I hope the problem, if there is one, can be resolved!

if they're near a window, I'd say let them look out it, it may cheer them up (cheers Kilo up everytme :) )

Hes right next to a massive window. He's not dark and goes almost iluminous yellow/green. He's got a mistking and dripper setup and he's eating fine just lost his reds :/

Wasn't sure if its just because its winter and ambients are abit below but he seems happy and loves coming out for a roam

Ohh sorry I misread yours and the original poster...
Maybe he realizes it is winter and yucky, so maybe, hopfully (like us) when we dont get enough real sun, we become sad and sick, or even not having a nice day) so maybe he can feel/sense it so maybe thats why you're not seeing the busting red. I'd offer to keep a watchful eye on him and hope with spring, comes his pretty red color back! I wish I had more answers for you :(

A sudden change of supplementing as well as gutload can have a huge factor in coloration. There was a previous thread where a member bought a gorgeous ambanja from another member on the forum (maybe someone can link up the thread if they remember what it was called or who the members were) and a couple months later their new ambanja was brown/ grey. They later discovered that it was likely because the new owner was using a fairly weak gut load and differing supplements from the previous owner. So the previous owner told him to start using his own personal gutload to see what happens, and low and behold a couple months down the road the ambanja started getting his colours back!

That might make sense, we use to gut load crix with bug burger and dinofuel raptor. And since we changed to locusts which you can't really gut load with either of them just greens mainly. Which was around the time he started losing colour. I'll have to look at getting gut loaded crix back and see what happens
Thanks for that thought

Ohhh where do you buy Locusts, are you in the US?

Nah uk. At which ever pet shop I'm near

You guys have things so much easier available... here in USA in Massachusettes, its hard enough to buy crickets (check out my forum post in General Discussion "Pre-Packaged crickets" or osmething along those lines... Cant buy horned worms of locus here either :(

Crixs
mealworms and superworms (sacre me)

Somethings but everything else you guys get is awesome. I wanted to build a cage for him like on the jdog tutorial videos. Nothing in that video he uses or anything similar I can get to make the screen cage without shipping from america. Shipping Alone costs £200 which would be near 300usd ish I think.

Locusts are an awesome feeder. It's too bad they are not sold around here. However, at the end of each summer we catch tons of them. I just dust the greens with the DinoFuel to get the locust to eat it. I also dust the locusts with it. Maybe this will help, if all you have around your area are locusts.

Roaches, roaches, roaches.

Anyone in the US who doesn't live in Florida is LUCKY. Darn our stupid laws!

And if you don't use the internet for feeder needs, you better start soon! It's cheaper than you might think. (Especially for my 22 animals!)

Really bad quality though lol. That's what Boris is in at the moment and im not liking it

Really? I have all 3 of mine in those. Works just fine. What do you mean by low quality though? It's a simple screen cage.. not sure what do you want from it=)

regarding your colour issue.. My banja got quite bleak recently as well. Must be something in the air ey But he is still very young, so it's not his final colours. Yours looks quite young as well, so I wouldn't worry too much
