Male vs. Female

I'm probably going to be getting a veiled cham this summer and I figured that once males reach maturity they would turn into little jerks, no? I know some people have different results reading around on the forum, but isn't it the general consensus that veileds are normally a bit more antisocial? I'm really thinking I want a veiled because they are the cheapest option and this will be my first cham. I was wondering though, are females generally less aggressive? I didn't want to deal with the gravid thing, but I think if she'd be friendlier I could deal with it.

What are your experiences with male vs. female veiled chameleons in terms of aggression twords their handlers?

Help me decide, please! I tried the pros and cons of both..and darn it they balance out!

Male pros:
-More colorful
-Less maitenence

Male cons:
-Larger
-Jerkholes (?)

Female pros:
-Smaller
-Nicer (?)

Female cons:
-Not as pretty
-More maintenance (eggs)

I don't have a veiled but you can mark the not as pretty off the con list for the females. I have seen some pics of females that rival any male. Take a look at Jannb's female, Sadie, hers stands out in my mind although there are many more. :).
Here is a thread of pics of her female

Females and males are both beautiful just different ;)

Also there are lots of folks that have veileds male and female that are quite sweet.

I am with you on the gravid/egg thing, I have been contemplating a female and just worried I don't have enough experience under my belt yet. The thought of it and reading so many threads with issues it worries me a little, but of course that is what this forum is here for, Greta folks and great knowledge.

My gosh she's stunning! If Jannb breeds her I'd no doubt nab a daughter, but not many females look like that hah. Sadie is sooooo pretty!

oh my.... here is my guy Stanley....he is a product of Jannb's Luie and Camille babies..... he is absolutely the sweetest, friendliest guy ever!!!!! he'll be 3 in March and i love him to pieces!!!!!!!! Sadie is his niece...
he's just like his daddy,,, the whole package!!!

I promise I'm working hard on it !!! I want a Stanley Jr. myself!!! ;)

Wow, he sure is pretty. I actually like the smaller casque on the females..but I kinda want guaranteed color lol

I'm still so undecided on gender! I think I'm still leaning twards males...

I've been shopping around for the past few hours and so far my potential baby daddys are Stripes (tikitiki reptiles), Newton (FL chams), or Kink (cammie!). I want Kink the most, but it all depends on if she still has babies available when I'm ready.

I actually think female veiled are prettier then males. If it is your first cham it would be better to start with a male. Still your decision though :)

Personally I think one of the reasons people's chams are nasty is you try to handle them. How would you feal if someone can in every day an dragged you out your home. I only have one nasty Cham out of 24 and I put it down to the fact I leave them be, they only come out for inspection every now an then

Although I've yet to own one, I have been around several and have wondered why people come into this hobby expecting an easily handable lizard. I mean, there are definitely friendly chams out there, there's no doubt about that. Personally, I'm getting a cham with the thought of a beautiful, interesting pet. I guess a tame one would simply be a plus.

As for male vs. female? I'd get a male because you do pretty much get guranteed color, and many are stunning when fired up. Females tend to scare me off because of their egg laying and all the problems that can come with it, plus their shorter life span. Maybe most people have problems with males because most tend to get males? Just a thought.

That was EXACTLY what I was thinking. Every word of it. And I'm not really wanting it to cuddle with, I just dont want it to hiss or snap at me every time I'm in the cage doing something. I have an evil parrot that barely lets me change his paper and, though I know its not the best comparison, I don't want a mean cham hissing at me when I walk by.. lol

I have a male and he is the sweetest thing in the world, we can handle him all we want and he never gets upset or angry and he is beautiful....a friend of ours has his sister and she isn't near as sweet.
