MarryJane smoke and my Chameleon.

I am sorry, i smoked occasionally, and I have to do it in my home, since it is a medical perscrition. Now is it HORRIBLE for my Chameleon? Should I not expose him to smoke??

I'm not blowing it at him, but the smoke lingers a little sometimes.
Sugestions?

That is like any other smoke, keep it as far away from your cham as you can.

Thanks laurie,
I have a 1 bedroom appt with my significant other, I'm actually going to move him into our bedroom.

Do you think him being next to a gas heater (in our living room) is causing him stress????

I have been chit chatting with reptilelover18, shes great and so are you hun.

Kilo has dark scales on his head/veil, some speculate they're stress patterns..... Is the gas stove stressing him??????

Would the gas stove/basking light/UVB bulb make it TOO hott????

Now I dont CRANK the heat, but i keep it comfortable to my naked skin (not to be to weird guys, but we have a mini pinsher and Kilo, who are much smaller and have no cloths, so i expose my thigh sometimes to make sure I'm not a little chilly) We dont have a themomitor or humidfying reader yet, I cant afford one for at least a week which sucks.

Yeah I would keep the smoke away from your chameleon. Keep in mind we are MUCH bigger animals than them. If that smoke can affect you, you can be darn sure it has a MUCH stronger effect on him, as he has much smaller lungs and body in general.

Smoke in general will cause problems for them eventually.

As for the heater, it is probably not causing him stress, but it may be
  • causing humidity to drop
  • causing temperatures to become hotter

I have had chameleons die from being around too much pot smoke that's what the vet said

^ Yeah so I would just plain out smoke in another room.

I would actually smoke somewhere else that has a window, and put a towel down under the door. When you are done, air out the room by opening the window, then remove the towel and open the door (if the cham is NEAR your room) because that smoke can fill up the whole house sometimes.

:( maybe this is why I'm having such dark scale patterns on his head while everything else is bright green :( i feel so awful right now

Could you post a picture of the dark scales on his head please?

I will show you mine in comparison. Sometimes they have some dark scales on their head just as a pattern.

Here is my example. See the dark spots on his casque? Those are normal.

thanks :) you're pretty awesome yourself!!!
and i agree i would keep him away from the smoke as much as humanly possible. i think getting him accidentally stoned would be bad and since he is like 20 times smaller then humans it will have way larger affects on him then you! his little lungs would not appreciate it lol

i dont understand how it could cause mouth rot

Same way it could cause gum cancer in humans I'm not a vet or expert by any means just what my vet said I have no factual data and don't have a clue if its true or not just throwing it out there. Maby cotton mouth is really hard on their gums idfk

This.

Now, so that everyone understands, your chameleon lacks an endocannabinoid system, as do all reptiles.

What this means is, is that the chameleon cannot get medicated, stoned, high, cheeched, baked, blitzed, ripped, or lifted from the smoke, ingestion, or any other form of administering cannabis.

So thats not the issue.

The issue is that the smoke will have a negative effect on the working of the lungs of the animal, more so than it does on yourself.

thanks guys, i would never get Kilo the Chameleon high, i would worry it would shorten his life (as were all always worrying bout for our own cham, sadly)

I dident take it as you were like I said I really don't have any clue just sharing what ive heard. Makes sense not good for us won't be good for them and it will be magnified much worse because of size difference
