Mass Breeding?

After seeing PETA pop up a few times I'm wondering who has seen Penn & Tellers episode on them. It's from a show called Bullsh*t.
Sorry if this is off topic.

20,000 reptiles seized at Arlington pet wholesaler, sounds the same as a mill to me.

What are you talking about? This company was an import/export/wholesale operation, not a breeding operation. They were a dealer who got greedy, not a breeder in any way and thus, not a breeding mill. Thats like saying BMW as a company are dishonest crooks because some used car salesman sold a BMW that should have been junked without disclosing it had been flooded out.

Great thought provoking post! BUT...

The best post here is Obama checking out my chameleons balls:D

Can I get a visual on that?

Dj richy......... You say tomato I say tomoto:confused: I think we are talking about chameleon breeders here, not exotic pet wholesalers.

I was quoteing the part where mills sell reptiles too I bet there was chameleons in that bust they did there were reptiles in shipping boxes that were dead

If you want to compare it to a BMW it would be like a factory in Mexico building a cheap bmw and selling it off as a bmw in mass amounts. But we arnt talking about cars.

Yes they dont breed but they do buy in large amounts for cheap from reptile "mills" and sell to petstores.

I think maybe if we are going to use an analogy that has to do with cars :) it would go more like this-

If you sell a car to someone who goes out drinking and then kills someone while driving intoxicated, are you responsible for what they did with the car?

In this case, who should be held responsible? The breeders who supplied this guy? The pet shops who bought from him? The customers who support the pet shops? Part time hobby basement breeders who take great care of their animals but don't care if they make a profit so they price low and drive the price down for everybody? People who shop the lowest price on classified ads on the internet? Reptile shows who drive down the price at retail pet shops that have to compete and therefore order from cheaper suppliers?

How about if we keep the blame where it belongs and blame the scum who was busted?

I've never heard of the guy in the article, but I would guess that he is a sort of jobber who buys mostly from other larger wholesalers and not directly from breeders himself. I don't pretend to know many wholesalers, but I know who many of the larger ones are.

I don't think you would find many breeders who would knowingly sell to the person or someone like them in the news article. I think most groaned inside (probably outside too) when they saw it in the news.

I also think this guy would have been loosing massive amounts of money from dead inventory and dealing with large numbers of unhappy customers- he could probably not operate like this for very long...

Wait, so let me get this straight. First you say this import/export/wholesale business that got busted was a mill (see the first sentence of post #57), which they aren't because they aren't a breeding facility (a fundamental part of the definition of a mill). Now you're claiming you understand they don't breed (and thus aren't a mill) but claim that they purchased large numbers of animals from mills? I think you need to make up your mind and think before you post. You have absolutely no idea who this company purchased its CB animals from, the conditions of those breeder's facilities or the condition of the animals when this company purchased them. How the hell are you going to make a statement about them buying from reptile mills?

As for your correction to my analogy...didn't we just establish that this company is a wholesaler (i.e. dealer), not a breeder (i.e. factory), and thus is not breeding (i.e. building) anything?
