Meaning of “hold back” chams?

I was going through the chams for sale forum and a few of them say they are “hold backs.” What does this mean?

Did the seller hang on to these for some reason?

Typically "Hold Back" means the breeder was going to keep that animal for whatever reason. Size, color, temperament.

The seller will hold back a few to see if the color is something he/she wants keep for breeding or they may just be held to prove the colors of that line.

Our hold backs are usually the ones that have spectacular colorations, temperament and personality. We try to hang onto these guys but we only have so much room for males.
