My new chameleon!

I was finally able to bring home my panther chameleon today and I'm excited to start this new journey and potential addiction lol this little guy came from Captive Creations in London Ontario and this process started months ago! I can't thank Lindsey and Steve enough. They answered so many questions and told me about this site. I didn't need to ask too many more questions once I started leaning from this community. Thanks! This is Leo in his temporary home until he's big enough for his 2x2x6 Viv that's waiting for him. Any advice is always welcomed. I already moved the light so he's not so close to it. Oh and the only reason the cable is in there was to test the basking spot and that's why I moved the light. Cheers!

thanks! Its so neat to watch the kids be just as fascinated and excited too. I put in crickets for the first time and he went right after them! I did wake up and saw him biting the pothos. is that bad?

Not an expert but they are on the chameleon safe list so I'm pretty sure they are ok. Mine doesn't eat anything but bugs.
 
I would watch it closely and present your cham with some collard greens or something a little better for him if he eats a lot of pothos he could get sick but i doubt if hed eat that much
 
Very nice looking little guy. Don't worry about him biting the plant panthers are insectivores he shouldn't eat much plant material. I would switch to a linear 5.0 or 6% UVB light though the CFLs have been known to cause some issues with chams eyes. Once you move him to the bigger enclosure a 10.0 or 12% UVB may be a good upgrade as well if it's going to be planted.

They are but many of them are actually toxic in large quantities but odds are they are not eating large quantities. I would definitey rather my cham ti be eating collard greens over my pothos plants lol but thats just me
 
What a beautiful little boy! Such a nice set up as well. My advice to you is if you're interested in handling him a lot when he gets older, make sure to spend a lot of time getting him used to you while he's a baby! This could include simply spending a lot of time around his terrarium, placing your hand inside of it to get him used to you in his territory, and handling him so that he becomes accustomed to it. The last two of course should be done once you're sure he's all settled in and relaxed with his surroundings :) feeding from the hand also is good for bonding! I wish you much luck with him! xx
 
Thanks for the kind responses! We are going to wait a few days for him to get comfortable then absolutely we will try to make him fine with being hand fed and handled as long as he's ok with it. The breeders have already done a great job with that. I will look it to changing the lights options for his bigger viv. Thanks for the info on the pothos too. I've watched him eat and he's not hiding and looks as comfortable as he could be although some times he looks almost black but he did just get misted so maybe that's why?

Probably just trying to absorb heat. They go dark when they do that.
