My veiled crooked casque, MBD?

Hi everyone, I am new here, but I tried to write as many info as I can :)

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled, male, a bit over 3 months old, about 2 months in my care
Handling - Very rarely. I’m still exploring our relationship.
Feeding - Crickets, occasional super worms. The crickets are fed mostly carrots and apples.
Supplements - He gets reptimineral C (https://www.sera.de/us/product/sera-reptimineral-c/) once a week and now I’ve started to use Biomin H daily.
Watering - I hand mist him twice or more a day and I often see him drinking from the glass wall of his terarium.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Terarium 40x50x60 - I would like to get him bigger one as soon as possible.
Lighting - Zoo Med ReptiSun 5.0, 40watt heat lamp
Temperature - 28-32C (82-90F) in his basking, 19-22C (66-72F) in the bottom.
Humidity - 35-50 for most of the day, spikes when misting.
Plants - He has a three fake plants as you can see in the photo.
Placement - He’s in my room. No traffic, but also no direct sunlight.
Location - Central Europe

Current Problem - I am concerned about the crooked casque and also it looks like he’s sometimes having a hard time climbing. Could it be MBD? I’ve also found, that the casque could be from burn or when the cham is trying to scratch his casque, but I think that’s not it. I am really scared right now.

#Photo_1: I was cleaning his enclosure and he was not very happy about it. :)
#Photo_2: The best photo of crooked casque I could take. He's hiding from me mostly. But sometimes he's just watching me even if I am very close. This is the thing I can't understand now.
#Photo_3: Photo of his current home.

I will be very happy for any advice!

Thank you,

Lukas

I'm not familiar with the supplements you are using so I can't offer an opinion on those but I can tell you that it seems like they are not up to par with what he needs.

You need a plain Calcium with out D3 6 days a week
You need a Calcium with D3 twice a month and
You need a multivitamin twice a month.

I'm not sure of what you have if they meet any of these requirements or not. But improper supplementation is a cause of many issues. Really look into what you have, you may just need to get all new supplements.

Thanks for reply Peachypink, can you please suggest the best supplements in your opinion, which are accessible worldwide?

It might just be the angle but if the first picture his back leg looks as it may have a curve in it.

I can't get better photo now, but his legs seem to be ok just by look.

I think that may be the angle, too.
As for the bent casque, I am afraid I can't be much help.
But the advice I would like to share is you really should get a larger and all screen cage ASAP. He needs better airflow, and with him being a male, if he sees his own reflection in the glass, it could be very bad. I know you said you wanted to get a new cage, and I am just agreeing with you. It should probably be a very high priority.

You've just secure my ideas. I definitely wanna bigger all screen cage.
And about the casque.. I am really desperate about it. I'm gonna see a vet on Friday, because I wanna be sure. I'm just scared about getting him out of his home. He's kinda stubborn lately :(

Check out the photo album I just created on my profile page. As you can see, I had the same setup for a short time. But I found the air getting too stagnant, and got a screen cage as soon as I could. I think he was only in that cage for maybe 2 or 3 months. As far as the casque, I honestly don't even know what it's made of. Cartilage? Muscle? Fat? Bone? I really don't know. Maybe one of the more knowledgeable and experience keepers can help. @Link @Remkon @Replife @ZacharyLeesWife ?

It's mostly bone filled with muscles used to apply a harder bite anyhow all kinds of thinks can cause a deformed casque 9 times out of 10 it's from MBD I also would recommend a 24x24x48 open air enclosure but first thing you need is a vet visit get your new friend checked out he probably just needs some liquid calcium and he would probably be right as rain (y)

I agree with the vet and liquid calcium, the bend in his casque is pretty pronounced. If it was an injury I'd think there would be major swelling or scarring but all I see is the bend. Angle of the photo could be at play but I don't like the look of his leg, either. Otherwise he looks good, I don't think it is severe so I would expect a full recovery. I would recommend the screen cage as well, but our good friends across the pond very commonly use vented glass to no ill effect. I am at a total loss as to why glass is a known issue here but not abroad. There are a ton of positives to the screen, though regardless of location.
@Angelwolf an expert? I'm honored!

Thank you all so much! :) I'm happy to hear, he's gonna be okey!

@Angelwolf Thanks for the help. I've checked your album and your cham and enclosure look great :)

@Replife and @ZacharyLeesWife Thank you both guys for more information and suggestions! I'm gonna see the vet tomorrow and I will build him full screen enclosure as soon as possible :) Although I'm a little bit scared that I can't keep humidity higher than 40 % in the "open" screen enclosure. Also Replife - when you said 24x24x48, you mean inches, right? :D

And about the substrate Zachary. Yes, you do see it :( But I think that the glass bottom would be even worse, wouldn't it? What do you recommend instead of the substrate.

Thank you guys in advance. You're the best!

I personally use the green sheet substrate designed for reptiles. It's cheap, super easy to clean and very absorbant. I've heard many people using just paper towels. The substrate can cause impaction or hurt their tongues, so no substrate is better even if it leaves glass exposed on the bottom temporarily. Your baby shouldn't spend much time down there, anyhow.

Yes inches 24x24x48 is the minimum for a happy vailed but fill free to go as big as u like (y)

This is a link to one of the most popular cages used here in the US. The XL size is the recommended minimum size for a veiled. It's what I have. The thing about glass enclosures, at least here in the US, is that they have been thought to contribute to upper respiratory infections, as well as bacterial and fungal growth. If you find maintaining humidity is a problem, you can take a heavy plastic like a shower curtain, and wrap 3 sides of the enclosure. This will also cut down on any drafts. Don't shrink wrap it. Just drape it. That way, air can still move through. If you look closely in my pictures, you can see that that's what I did with mine. It's winter here, and my house is kind of drafty, so I used the plastic to cut down on any drafts, as well as to keep the humidity up. Live plants will help a lot with humidity.
And, yes @ZacharyLeesWife ! You're a more seasoned "expert" than I am! :notworthy:

@ZacharyLeesWife Thank you! That's very valuable information for me. Can you please just send me any link, where could I find this material? I was not able to find such a thing :(

@Replife Thanks for additional info! :)

@Angelwolf Thanks for the link and additional advices! That's exactly what I want to buy for my little boy. :)

Also guys I was able to take this photo today - you can see the back leg better, but the quality sucks. I hope it's good for you anyway. What do you think?
(Also I hate the smudges, which are on glass after misting! Getting exited for the screen cage :) )

Thanks,
Lukas

Are you referring to repticarpet?

Hi guys, I'm here with update!

I was able to take new pictures at the vet's. I was told he's gonna be okey :) He probably just needs calcium. The vet did not wanna to stress him by taking his blood or any advanced diagnosing methods. I'm gonna give him calcium with every feeding and calcium with D3 once a week.

@Angelwolf @ZacharyLeesWife @Replife @Theveiled
What do you think now with these better photos? :) What about the little bit more grey color of his skin on the back of his head? Is it ok?
