"Natural" Forest Floor Terrarium "Testing" Build!

What kind of bamboo are you waiting on?

Some for branches or plants?

Just asking I found that lowes has both pretty cheaply. The bamboo i use for branches are in the outdoor/gardening section - plant stakes and are 6 foot long poles.

What i want is some bamboo leaf-litter (the bamboo leaves are slim and have a different profile than the Magnolia I'm using now, it will add some contras and depth).

And im looking for bamboo poles, about 1"-1.5" thick. The L.williamsi geckos that I'll be housing likes to live in and amongst them. They also use them as a site to lay eggs.

I have a bamboo grove a block away from me.

PM me if you need that stuff I can walk over with the sawsall and cut you a bunch of 20-24 inch sections grab some fresh leaves etc... and mail to you cod if you need.

I go over and cut all the time for various projects. :)

Thats just 1 bamboo stalk cut down, pretty good diameter base.

Many thanks!!

just let me know the weight of the box and i'll create a label for nextday UPS!

weights 12lbs on my scale so roughly 15lbs? in case their scale is different than mine?

np dude, just make sure to post pix up when you get the bamboo in.

Lol careful opening that box I squeezed what 4 30 inch sections into that box and 3 of the 4 were full foilage sections. lol

You should have enuff extra to do more than 1 cage for sure branch and leaf wise.

My work shop!!

With very limited tools.

Bamboo cut to fit horizontal in the enclosure. I cut small openings to give the geckos access to inside the bamboo. Broke a knife in the process.

Almost done. Might move a few things around later. And have to figure a way to mount the bamboo a lil more secure. Its a firm fit now, but as it dries and srinks it will become loose.

lol! Yeah surprised it didnt fly out at you when you cut the tape! :p

It looks good in the habitat... they are gonna love it!

Awesome looking man!

It shouldn't shrink to much but if you had a hot glue gun you could just put a little on the backside or in spots to hold it firm. I bought one for the wife a cpl yrs back and I admit i use it like crazy on projects like this lol.

I was thinking that. Just a spot or two of clear silicone, to keep it put. Just didnt want it to look like it was mounted.

Nice! Those williamsi will love it in there.
Im hoping they will. If all goes as plan, they will be here on Wednesday. (they would have been here already, but had a lil hickup).

How are the plants looking in there? Are they settling in OK?

They are growing in well. I have had them under lighting 24/7 and fairly humid and watered. Some of the pots I can see roots growing out of the planters. Some have new leaves. So all seems well. I'm hoping the hibiscus lives. I had to trim a bit of the hair root system to get it into the 3.75" planter. But if it doesn't make it ,I have a plant to replace it.

I also got some more bamboo that I'm considering either have it suspended from the top mesh lid or on a plate attached horizontal on the glass wall. (something held with M3 like you did) so it would be removable incase eggs are laid in them.

JonRich, I've used bamboo in my gecko terrarium also. What I did was stick a piece of the fuzzy side of that velcro on each end of the bamboo so I can slide it around or take it out when needed. That should take up the shrinkage.
