Went to mist Dinah Shore and her left eye is swollen.

She's a jackson, about a year old, she can still see through the eye... no obvious scratches or anything like that . She's acting a little dumpy.

No exotic vets outside of Nashville area. With my sons work schedule it would be at least week before I even get close to Nashville. Where do I the help form? I set up everything per JacksJill suggestions. She's been in good health for the past year.

  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.
Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

This is as far as my experience goes. I have not dealt with this situation but all I can say is I would be making a vet appointment.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? 36inch reptibreeze screen
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? T5ho 12 hours a day
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? 80 basking 72 cage floor 68 lowest at night
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? 70-80% fogger
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? Pothos
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? Bedroom 53"
  • Location - Where are you geographically located? Tennessee
Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about. Swollen eye.

I would start by hand misting and see if she is willing to rinse that eye. Has she shed recently? Can't tell if she has anything in there from here. Rinsing is a fairly non invasive way to start.
ReptiCalcium and ReptiVite have no vitamin A from retinol. There isn't any absolute info that they need dietary vitamin A from retinol vs betacarotene but a deficiency can cause eye problems. If she is eating and you can get access to a supplement that has Retinol giving her one dose no more than once a month or two might be helpful.
If this is an injury or infection and those are likely as well then vet care is needed. I only suggest these other treatments as first aide until you can get in to the vets.
 
She's still feeding and use eye. She is starting to shed. And is up and roaming now. Will definitely rinse lightly and order some vitamin a. There's not any exotic vets near me. They're supposed to be building a new vet complex in the town next to us treating exotics to farm animals. We'll do our best till then.
 
I'm trying to find one... been on the phone all afternoon with no luck. The one place that's a possibility is closed for the holiday if not I'll have figure out what's in Nashville. It definitely wasn't swollen yesterday. It's got me worried. I've been going through old threads.

If it wasn't swollen yesterday and is now that big that's more of a concern unfortunately. I've seen eyes swollen suddenly like that from a blocked tear duct, injury, RI, cancer and a number of other things so I would only be guessing to tell you what it is.

Update on the swollen eye... it's good now completely back to normal. Yesterday she laid several slugs though. Not for sure if it's related or not. Still trying to get her to a exotic vet.
