New baby male Veiled Chameleon!

Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to the forums and I just got my first chameleon today! I've owned desert reptiles in the past and still currently, but this is my first tropical reptile (not including fire bellied newts since they are amphibians). He's captive bred and showed gorgeous coloration and designs in the store. A little chilly on the way home so he's been basking ever since, but I managed to take a few photos without him getting too upset with a camera sticking in his face during his basking time. Also his face is still in the process of shedding in case you are wondering what the white speck is below his eye. And just out of curiosity, I know you're supposed to let reptiles shed on their own, but the piece below his eye looks irritating and I wish to removed it, would that be acceptable or should I let it fall off on its own accord?

Enjoy :D

I would move your vine closer to the basking light. It looks so far away and he might not be able to warm up. I would put that about 8 inches below the basking bulb.

Hey thanks so much for the tip! I put the UVB in the front and the heat lamp in the back so that it's 7" from a nice basking spot!

As for everyone else, your comments are much appreciated! Really looking forward to watching him grow. I gutted out my walk in closet (4'x2'x6.5') so that when he's big enough he can move from his current set-up into a beautiful free ranger!

Welcome!!! Very nice lil guy you have there. As said a nice warm misting should help that shed come right off.
As far as the basking site goes, reccomeding a distance without knowlege of type and wattage of bulb is risky
I would place the bulb as to create about a 85-90 basking area for him at the hottest, it may very well be 7 or 8 inches but measure to be safe.
Glad you found us hope you enjoy the site

Hello and welcome to the forums! Congrats on your new little guy. He sure is a handsome little fellow! I have a 3 month old male veiled myself and just love him! The first time my guy shed, he had a few little spots on his head that I guess got stuck, no matter how many times I sprayed. It all came off the next time he shed though, even though it drove me crazy seeing it every day! Good luck with your little guy! This is a great place to get advice and share your love of such amazing little creatures!

Thank you so much for your responses and welcomings! I can already tell that this forum rocks! His basking area is around 88-90 degrees and he seems to really enjoy it, so I suppose that is good! Really glad to hear that everyone says he looks good! I am always such a worry wort when it comes to buying a reptile I have no previously owned.
Cheers!
