i have a baby male veiled cham that i got 5 days ago and it is living in a 2x2x4 screen enclosure that is the correct temp and humidity and i have a cup hanging inside the cage that i put crickets in but not a single cricket has been eaten by him in all 5 days so im a little worried

Sometimes they will not eat right away from stress but there could be other reasons also. Try letting some of the crickets loose and see if he will hunt them down. Some chameleons may not cup feed. Are you using the proper size crickets? How old is your chameleon? Can you post of a pic of your set up also.

my cham is 7 weeks old and i got the small crickets from petsmart

I hotglued a piece of dowel rod in the center of my cup for the crix to walk up and down. Occassionally one might jump out onto the screen, but most stay inside the cup. By the time i get home they're all gone.

I also noticed your cage is sitting on the floor??? Although your cage is bigger than mine, most do suggest setting your cage on a table of some sort to give it more height. The chams feel safer the higher they are. My chams like looking down at me, then again I'm only 5ft 1/2". Haha!

thank you i will raise up the cage and try that dowel trick but whaen should i be worried if he is still not eating

Every chameleon is different, some need a little more time than others.

Try offering worms as well to give him options. I used the same concept with the crix cup, but for the worms I use more of a small plastic water drainage tray used for small potted plants. I got them at a 99cent store.

Also, I failed to ask what size crix you are giving him? Just to rule out the possibility of them maybe being too large to eat. Rule of thumb to size feeders is they should be no bigger/wider than the space between their eyes. :)

Good luck!

that may be the case but im not sure. im going to get some worms at the pet store later so maybe i will look for smaller crickets...also i raised the cage off the floor 14in and am installing a drainage system underneath so he is a bit higher off the ground now
