New chameleon closed eyes

So I just got this chameleon today a few hours ago as a present because I always wanted one. I was planning to go in to the store where my friend bought it and ask for some information like if it’s a male or female and what age is it.
Everything was fine the first hour, he was climbing on the real branches in the cage, I put some water for him on the bottom of the cage.
I have read here that you should use warm water to spray the leaves so they can drink. So I decided to do that, I took distilled water and sprayed a little bit on the leaves, but not on the chameleon. It hissed when I was spraying but like I thought that it just not used to the place and scared.
Later, he climbed at the top of the cage, away from the leaves and closed its eyes. And it has been like that for over an hour. It isn’t moving or anything. Here are some pictures.

Do not spray with warm water. Room temp nothing warmer. Don't spray the cham directly they really don't like it much. No water dishes they only drink from water dripping on leaves.

Include pics of the cage lights down so we know what your working with. What time is it at where you are... He may be trying to go to sleep for the night as well. They need lights on for 12 hours then lights off and total darkness for 12 hours.

I’d advise no bedding on the bottom I have the same cage and the bedding can hold moisture and it gets bacteria. Add more horizontal branches for basking. Here’s what mine looks like

• Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
• History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
• Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
• Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
• Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
• Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
• Location - Where are you geographically located?

Also do you have a mister? What plants are you using and are they toxic you need way more coverage. I’m getting a hibiscus for my cage because it doubles as a snack. What are you feeding it ? Do you dust it with calcium powder? Are you gutloading? Are you feeding worms bc they are high in fat... no offense to u or it but it looks a little round. if it’s a girl she might have eggs. How old is it?

This is my Lily's temporary enclosure for inspiration. Note the heavy foliage and number of horizontal branches forming a "highway" so that Lily can access all of her cage and thermoregulate effectively. With chams, empty space is wasted space!

They just got it today so I doubt they are doing any of these things.

Your lighting is incorrect, you need to remove the reptile carpet at the bottom, and your fogger should not be on while your lights are on--to name a few. You should fill out the form that was posted here by GoodKarma and make your own thread.
