New Chamelon is black.

Hi there

Yesterday I adopted a 1 year old female veiled Chamelon. She came with everything that she needed. I set up her cage about wast high so the top of it is about at my neck height or so (Her cage is 3 feet high).I have the temperature at around 90 and humidity at around 40/50ish. I just worried though because she has stayed black and has barley moved from one spot since we have brought her home. I am wondering if it is normal for her to stay that colour or is she just adjusting to the new environment?

Drop that temp down 85F on the basking spot,just to see if any change.

Drop that temp down alot!, Females should be kept at like 82-83 for basking.

Can you post a pic of her, sounds like she is gravid to me.

Get a laying bin in there now, like right now. If she is ready to lay and you dont give her a bin she will get egg bound.

If she has black spots than she is likely stressed, if all black she is gravid. The temp needs to change but if she was too hot she would turn white/light not black.

^^^ GRAVID ^^^ if she looks like that she needs a bin right now. She does anyway, but if she is gravid get it ASAP. Chameleons will lay eggs whether they are fertile or not, and if she is black like that she got eggs.

Give the chameleon some time to adjust. Usually they go into small periods of stress after you move them and that is normal. If the colors stay dark after a few days or a week, then there might be other issues. But as others have said, drop that temp a bit too!

That is likely just stress for a new enclosure ect. I thought you meant black like the pic I linked.

Regardless she is a year old she needs a laying bin, right away. At least one that you could put in when she needs it (if you dont want to leave it in all the time)

5Gallon bucket with organic playsand or organic soil or 50/50mix some female cham will prefer one or other!!

^ good idea if you dont want a permanent bin. I would go with a permanent bin, which could just be the cage size and 10 inches tall. You just need something at least 12x12 and allows for sand 8-10 inches deep.

Dragon strand makes a great bin, if your cage will fit it.

She will start scratching at bottom of cage or pacing back and forth down there.
