Hello guys, I recently had a young kid come into my work asling if I'd like to buy a chameleon with his whole setup. He was with his dad that seemed upset his kid bought this chameleon with his savings i guess not sure. But for 40 bucks for him and all the stuff I couldn't pass it up. Now he was in a 3 foot by 2 foot cage which I don't know much about these guys but it was obvious to me it was way small for him/her so I built this cage for him and bought a mist king I think he is much happier. Anyway onto my question is he male or femlale ? From head to to tail I would guess he is about 9-12 inches long.

Thanks in advance .

Haha I knew this was coming. I have a all the lighting with him in the original cage he had I still hadn't completely finished the tank or moved him over when I took this pic.
Also the tank i built is 6' high 4 ' wide never seen a cage like the one I built is this corner tank ok for him ? He must of been handled his whole life because as soon as I put my hand in his cage to move a branch or something he darts towards my hand to get on. How old you guys think he is ?
Thanks guys.

He looks like he's in good condition. Congratulations on a great deal. He's definitely a male. Not sure on locale but he looks like a red bar Ambilobe.. Do you have any clearer pictures? Nice cage too BTW..

My guess would be ambilobe but I am far from knowledgeable. Since you knew we were going to ask about lights, would you mind telling us all about how he will be set up? And I have seen a corner cage like what you made.

He does look like an ambilobe, and he is certainly a male, look at this pic, male on the left and female on the right. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375479234.855818.jpg

That's a great set up.
How did you make it.
I'm going to go with male also.
He looks ambilobe but it's hard to tell from the picture.

Sure. I bought a mist king and that's on a timer.
I also bought a 160w power sun light since my tank is 6 feet tall i have it on a dimmer so I can control the heat. I also bought a 100w ceramic heater and that is on a dimmer too so i can control the temp. I was going to get a basking lamp but I think that power sun will be enough. What do you guys think ?

Just 2x2 wood. Metal screen. Acrylic for the front. And screen tracks for the screen door. Oh yeah and acrylic for the bottom I drilled a ton of small holes on the bottom so all yhe water can drain and i just put a bucket to catch it all.
Prety easy.

He is a male.......Im guessing a redbar ablilobe, maybe sambava.Such a score! There are a few things you can do to bring his colors out.First Get him some real unfiltered real sun light. that old cage will be great as an outdoor sunning cage . When your researching your supliment schedule. varity is key to a healthy robust cham..I dust feeders daily with rapashy calicum plus.I feed my crickets better that my children. so im told.I use bug burgar, cricket crack, dinofuel. and lots of fresh vegies high in vit A .Good luck and welcome to the forums.

That sounds fairly simple.
We have a Senegal that's free ranged and lately she's become quite the explorer so we've been thinking of an enclosure.
I really like the way yours looks great job.
And more pictures of the little guy and set up too please!!!

Thanks for the tips , i was thinking of buildding another tank same size as the one i built but for the outside.

A basking light can be as simple as a regular clamp light fixture with a household light bulb. Chams need to have a decrease in temp at night. They like to bask high and then they will come down when they want some cooler temps. Basking is about 85-90 and bottom temps around 75. The most important light is your UV fixture. You need to have a linear fixture with a 5.0 UVB in it. When your cham is up basking he he will also be getting his UV. This UV bulb should be changed about every 6 months. I have a meter and can say that the UV's decrease over time and you need to keep his bones healthy.
