Hi everyone! I am brand new to this forumn so hello hello!

My husband has been wanting a Chameleon for years and I'm finally going to cave. I am going to surprise him with a Chameleon. He has expressed interest in a Jackson's Chameleon but he said any Chameleon would be awesome. My local pet store has Veiled Chameleons so I'm going to go with that kind.

I would love some starter tips, dos and do nots.

Thanks in advance!!

I would start by NOT supporting the pet store and getting your chameleon from a trusted breeder. If this is your first chameleon, I'd also suggest not getting a Jackson's unless that is what you're set on since their needs are a little more "specific" than a veiled or panther. There is a lot of valuable information on this forum, you just may have to spend some time sifting through the threads.
And welcome!

Why do you suggest going through a breeder vs a pet store?

Many large chain petstores have breeding animals that are not quality due to the large ammount of breeding they do. Also many petstores do not take proper care of the chameleons they are selling. You want to start off with a healthy animal that you know the history on. Personally I got my veiled from a petstore (petco) but I wish I would have waited and gotten from a breeder or sponsor here!

I love Stark so much though, knowing his personality now I am happy I picked him but unhappy I supported a petstore with the wrong care. the part that worries he is that I know nothing about his history and parents. I dont know what his parents look like, their health and how they were treated.

Wow! I had no idea. Thank you for the advice! How should I go about finding a breeder?
