The crickets wont smell if you clean your cricket bin every day. I guess you'll just have the one cham for the time being so you wont have to purchase bulk crickets like some of us do. When buying your crickets get the 4week olds. They are too young to chirp.
If you want to start a cheap feeder colony try dubia roaches. They can breed under almost any conditions but if kept warm they will breed more prolifically. They have a musty smell not gross at all and make no noise. They dont really fly and cant climb glass or plastic. So they can be cup fed. Just give them lots of greens and fruits and a little dry gutload and your set.

but this will give me plenty of time to keep researching and getting ready for my Champ.
