Hi guys,
A few months back I posted about my senegal Charlie. Well after numerous vet visits and some good days, followed with bad days...Charlie passed away a couple weeks ago. It was tough, but as a first time buyer buying a wc senegal from a store I got way more than I bargained for as far as his health.
I ordered and recieved a Veiled from Flchams. Awesome little guy thats very healthy. As promised it was like night and day the difference between my veil and the senegal I had(partly due to the senegal being sick since day one). Anywy, just a couple of questions..
Doc(son named him after doc from the movie cars) is very healthy. Ate crickets and drank right out of the overnight package basically. He is still very scared however, if we get near his enclosure he quickily runs and hides behind one of the bigger leafed hanging plants I have until we go away and then he goes back to basking/feeding/drinking etc. Should i be doing anything to help him earn at least enough trust to get near the cage? Like offering hand feeding, run my hand in there or what my gut feeling says......just let him be and he will learn in time....my senegal was "tame" from the first moment, crawling on us to get out of the cage during cleanings etc so im not used to a shy one.
Last question, this is day three with him and today i noticed once he had eaten all the crickets in the enclosure, he went to one of the fake plants i have in the enclosure and kept trying to bite a piece of the leaf off to eat it.....he did this more than once and he kept going to the same plant to take a bite. The plants leaves are really thick and i dont think the little guy is gonna be able to break a piece off anytime soon but i know that would be a BAD thing when/if that happens. Should I be feeding him more? Hes eating about six crickets a day right now, should i take the fake plants out of the enclosure now and if so do i replace with live plants so he can munch on them.....i know it would have to be a certain kind because of toxicity but is that something I should be doing now?
Thanks in advance and I will post some pics as soon as he isnt so camera shy.
Tony
