The little guy is still alive but still has just his tail sticking out. I tried to gently tug the open flap to see if I can tear it a little... its harder to do than you would think. The egg is not brittle like a chicken egg, but sort of rubbery, instead. When I gently pried it, I saw a little bit of fluid and the chameleon reacted in the egg. I instantly regretted trying to assist, and left it alone (and my guilt kept me awake all night).
This morning I found the little guy still in the egg, but still alive. This is probably 48-72 hours. I'm going to leave him be and keep checking. There's a lot of mixed feedback about whether you should "help" them out of the egg. They are so tiny, it seems very difficult and risky to try to do anything.
When I checked this morning, 2 or 3 more eggs were shrinking in size, telling me that more babies will be hatching soon! The eggs lost half their size in about 18 hours time. Thank you @kinyonga and @JacksJill for sharing some advice to a new (extremely nervous) mom!
