Let me introduce you to my little friend…s

What if we had a type of roach that equaled the B. Dubia in not climbing smooth surfaces, not flying, non-infesting, with a soft exoskeleton, and with high reproduction rates?

What if the care was exactly the same as for Dubia, but the roach had heavier weights at each nymph/adult stage, and was shiny? What if the adults and newly molted nymphs displayed bright orange to trigger feeding?

Here it is: The Orange Headed Roach, Eublaberus posticus.

If you are interested in obtaining the Orange Head Roach we have ads in the Classified section of this forum.

These are my favorite feeder for larger chameleon. They have more meat to shell than dubia, less fat than hissers, and lack the mantis-like spikes on hisser legs.

Any advantages on the dubia side? Seems like a no brainer to switch to these guys.
How about size as adults?
Any smell?

Very interesting - I'm in the U.K, didnt know if anyone sold them here but I'm super excited as I've found some and just ordered a mini colony to start breeding them. Thanks for the info. Looking forward to trying them- not me personally though.:)

I have some they eat anything, I got mine from Nick Barta a while back, but my veiled won't touch em. I keep feeding them hoping one day he'll give em a shot, they do look fat.. Lol. Till then they're my pet roaches I guess

I've always wanted some of these guys. I wish they were legal in Florida.
I have only lived in Florida(central) a few years and have just gotten my first chameleon about a month ago (female veiled). Can you tell me if there are any other insects that aren't legal here?o_O

Most of them honestly. It can be hard finding roaches especially, but we have a few that are legal. I have a colony of discoid roaches, which are similar to dubia, and eventually I want to get some green banana roaches. Both are legal here in Florida.

I haven't tried roaches yet. So far she gets Mostly crickets and super worms for variety she occasionally gets black soldier fly larvae, meal worm and wax worm. I have an order coming this week with horn worms and silk worms. I think hubby would have a cow if I brought in roaches....he's not overly fond of my bugs....Men....go figure!:ROFLMAO:

My husband is also not fond of the roaches lol. He won't reach into the bin or anything.

I'm one of those weirdos who find roaches of all sizes adorable. Except probably hissers but that's just because the sounds they make startle me.

I wasn't thrilled about mine when I first got them, but now I actually really enjoy caring for them. I always feel a bit bad when feeding the adults off to my Blue Tongue Skinks because the skinks take a long time to actually kill and eat them. They always have to thrash it around first and the poor roach is just flailing and trying to escape.

Roach R chams best friend, they dont smell ,they dont chirp, they dont bite, they can be slow growing and wont out grow ur chameleon mouth bites unlike the cricket, they can Gutload better, they can't jump n they are high meat to shell ratio, why eat a cheeseburger if u can go for filet mignon:)

Are orange head roaches carnivorous? I thought I read somewhere they will eat the wings off eachother then each other entirely if not feed regularly. I've also heard they need meat about once every few weeks to keep them from eating each other. Do they bite? Will they try to eat my chameleon when she is sleeping? Please corect me if I have this wrong.

My husband hated the fact that I got the roaches but after seeing that they are not as annoying as crickets he calmed down.
Although he still doesn't like them or my lizards. at least he knows that this is my thing and he doesn't give me a hard time about all of it, most of the time...haha

:ROFLMAO: Sounds like we have husbands that think alike. The bugs creep him out and he tolerates Fiona. I think I spend more money on her for bugs than I do for quality food for my two small dogs. I'm a senior citizen so I just blame it all on senility.o_O

Yup, sounds like my husband. He's really not an animal person but we have the Cham, a bearded dragon, 2 dogs and 2 cats....ALL my fault. LOL
