Ordering supplies for new cham

Hi everyone I was talking to @MissSkittles about ro filters and she said they were great to use for my cham's water but I was hoping someone could tell me if it would be better to get a 5 stage or an 11 stage. If anyone can please let me know I would greatly appreciate it. The pictures show what difference between the two are.

Unfortunately I have no experience with home filtration I lug my 5 gallon jugs back and forth to the water store one a week or so. Hopefully someone else with some first hand experience can chime in.

Yeah I'm hoping so, I would really like to get the 11 step because I will be drinking it as well, but I'm not sure if it's ok because of the minerals in it.

I use RO filters for my aquariums fish and a 5 stage is more than enough. Note that you will have a lot of waste water. For every one gallon of RO water you will waste about 5 gallons of water in the process. And if you are not constantly using it, they will clog. Unless your tap water is bad, a simple brita filter is more than enough.

My tap water is not good at all. I can't even drink it, I currently buy bottled water and want to stop doing this as the bottles are so bad for the earth so it will be used on a regular that's why I would really like to have the 11 stage. Do you happen to know if the added mineralization and antioxidants will be bad for my boy?

It won’t be bad, but the extra minerals might clog your misting nozzles and fogger unit due to the added calcium from the mineral cartridge. Have you looked into a whole home filtration system?

No I haven't I probably won't be able to afford a whole house system but I will look into it. I have just heard that it isn't good for us (people) to drink ro water all the time due to it removing all the minerals and what not that's why I really wanted that one.

I think it depends on the water quality. Good quality tap water (considered healthy for humans) has some naturally occurring minerals that ARE good for people and some plants. Some species of plants and animals (orchids and fish, for example), are really sensitive to minerals, and so tap water, especially unbalanced tap water, could cause issues. I have a good friend who is an orchid connoisseur, and he intentionally adds tap water to his RO water in order to add minerals back into the water, but just enough that it doesn't burn his sensitive palnts.

I agree RO systems are pretty wasteful. @jamest0o0 has a way more sophisticated RO set up than I did. I'd just run my attached to my garden hose, and I'd use the extra run off water to water in a separate bucket that I'd use to water my veggie garden. It's a slow process to fill up a gallon of RO water... like 20-30 mins per gallon. That's a LOT of wasted water if you aren't recycling it somehow.

How do they waste water when the water sits in the resavoire and filters until the next time you use it I don't understand this. I'm not saying anyone is wrong obviously because I have never used one I'm just curious.

Ok, yeah my water is definitely not balanced it used to be really good comes from a lake that is fed from snow melt and a river but a couple years it got really hot really fast and caused the bad green algae to grow, so now they put so much chlorine in it it literally gives me Heartburn. That's why I buy bottled water but I really want to have a filter system so that I don't have to do that anymore and that will be good for Groot. (my cham)

Can I use any of these plants for my enclosure and would it be ok to use the Weeping willow for free range

I use parlor palm with my veileds. I have a peacock plant that I’m considering trying with a panther. I can’t recall what I’ve heard about bird’s nest fern. All the others I’ve no idea so would avoid.

You have one water line going in. The water flows through the different stages. In the osmosis chamber there are two outlets; one that will continue to the other stages and eventually to the reservoir and another for water waste. The waste is needed to flush the osmosis chamber of the filtered material. Without the waste the system would clogged quick. There are adapters you can buy that will slow down flow, but this will deteriorate the osmosis chamber as buildup happens
