Outdoor cages...

Well yet again the sun shone in the UK...its getting to be a habit!! So i decided as its likely we may get a hot summer this year i would make up some outdoor cages as cheaply as possible for my chams to go in when having a sunbathe for a few hours...as there is an abundance of cats in the area i didnt want to risk just placing them on the nearest branch unsupervised..so i thought id see what i could knock up...i had a load of those plastic racking shelf units lying around..the dismantleable type..plus a big roll of black meshing and a bag of cable ties..so got to work...then it rained!! so i stopped..but here is an idea of what ive done so far..ive got 4 to make up..so once done i will stick a nice big ficus in each one and then every time it looks like its warm enough..they can all go for a sunbathe whilst i get the BBQ ready amd pop open another cold one!!:D

if we dont get nice weather....i will use them for the neighbours kids...

Not finished...but you get the idea.........:)

That really is such a great idea!! How are you making the door to get your cham in and out of the cage?

I also want to know where you got the mesh from, even though you're in the UK and we are in the US. I really love this idea though. I know for a fact my parents have a stand just like that sitting at home that doesn't even get used. Also, how did you attach the mesh to the stands?

He used zip-ties.

It is amazing how creative us chameleon people can be :D

Mr. Wilson: You can buy that stuff at Home Depots or Lowes in the fencing department ;)

The outdoor enclosures look great, where did you get the mesh from? Looks quite sturdy :)

Its actually plastic garden mesh. that i bought from EBAY recently..the UK EBAY..but im sure that an equivalent is available in the US

The original UK link is here...

Didnt cost a lot..the equivalent of around $7 per metre length and its a metre wide... add this to a bag of 100 zip ties..and thats it....i already had the shelving..loads of it..:)

yeah very neat idea.. i am also wondering about access into the cage...

Well..first ive surrounded the entire top section front. back and sides with the mesh...then im going to cut a flap in the back of the unit leaving one side untouched..once the cham is inside on his/her plant. i will use a couple of safety pins to secure it back..remember its only going to be in there a few hours at best..and the last thing its going to want to do is search for a way out...it will be too busy basking in real sunlight....:)

bit like this kind of flap...
