panther breeding

I'm not trying to bash or be mean, but I'm hoping you understand where I'm coming from.

I was directed here by my friend laughing about Chamsters posts again.

So, because I'm being nice ...

Cost of raising 69 baby Veileds...
OK-these guys started hatching 07/08 and hatched for 10 days. 1 died early on after it's tongue appeared to get stuck on something, but all 68 others are still alive at 5 months of age. I still have 13 of them. Here is the cost breakdown...

3 plastic totes @ $7.99 each $23.97
15 rolls of papertowels @ $1.59 $23.85
1 48" Lowes flourescent bulb holder $9.00
1 48" Zoomed UVB $13.99
6 plastic plants @ $4.50 $27.00
3 clamp lamps @ $7.00 $21.00 Total $118.81

Feeders: Lucky Lure orders on the following dates @45.00 each (This includes crickets for adults...)
6/4, 6/17, 6/30, 7/7, 7/15, 7/20, 8/3, 8/14, 8/26 Total $405

From Ghanns
9/21 @ $45.95
10/2 @ $55.65 Total $101.60

From Lazy H Total $279.00

Snail Tail Fruit Flies
$19.91+$19.85 Total $39.76

Shipping supplies (Boxes, shipping cups, cold and heat packs)

I am going to take a guess at this...
(I got off easy here-someone gave me a bunch of stuff) Total $100.00
I am not including electricty, supplements, or the gas it took me to drive home from work to ship these guys out from work when gas was $4.00 a gallon!

TOTAL $1044.17

Maybe later I will make this even more scary by seeing how much I made off of them-I can tell you it isn't much!

I'm going to ask the guy again about parents and grand parents. I wanna see what he says as a last question thing. Ok..

Thats a great breakdown of cost. I can tell you it cost me a lot more than that to raise 2 clutches of ambanjas. Thats the reason i sold my veiled eggs to a lrs. I knew i was going to lose my azz on them. Its a real shame the low prices on veileds. It keeps the hobbyist from breeding them because its a losing proposition.

Alright I just emailed him. This is what I said:

"Hi Nelson, I need to know information about the chams parents and grand parents... Are they all blue bar ambilobes or maybe some of them red ambilobes. Is my Cham PURE blue bar ambilobe as in his parents and grand parents being blue bar ambilobes? I need to know please."

It's a safe shocking breakdown, and I would expect it would cost the unknowing person a lot more due to uneducated spending the first time around.

I mostly hoped to scare Chamster into not wanting to breed, since a $100ish vet visit he already stated was too much for him and he would simply replace the animal if anything happened to it.

Personally, I'm already planning my breeding situation out while I'm still 2+ months away from mating at a minimum(most likely 4 months boo :( ).

im just waiting for this guy to answer me. depending on how he answers my really simple question i will be able to tell if he knows that the hell hes doing or talking about those chameleons that he has or the one he sold me. hope he knows.

Ok the guy just replied and this is what he said:

"They are pure bloods and they are red ambilobes with blue bars."

is this information any good?

Hes basically just giving an outward description of the chameleons hes selling. That in no way gives you any knowledge concerning where he bought his breeders or the names of his sire and dame. If you plan on breeding I would start with an established bloodline. How do u know hes not breeding related siblngs? I'd say go elsewhere for any future chams u purchase.

the info is good for what type of panther your cham is.
but it still lacks the info on what the "blood lines" are.

it's not that he didn't anser your question, but that YOU didn't ask the right question.

my point is, how can you even think of breeding when you don't know if your chams are related in some way?
in other words, a new female that you may buy could be your male's step-sister.
is inbreeding what you are looking for?

bllood lines, it's like your family tree. you wouldn't want to breed your niece would you?

so the questions you need to ask the breeder are what is your male's family tree so you can then use that info to buy an unrelated female.

I hope this helped.

why dont i just get a female from chroma chameleons they'll probably have chams that are not related to this guy right??? they are in a different city than toronto so....i this should be ok...

i cant read 50 pages....come on thats too much...is there a way to find out by just looking at the cham or no?? do i have to get it from the breadeR?

you are crazy m8 fair play

how would you know what bloodline it is by looking at it. i think you should give the breeding a break for a while and do some research!!!! otherwise i can guarentee you will run into problems with your female or even worse a load of babies....
