In all honesty I think you need some urgent remodeling. Most importantly get more live plants, it will give your chameleon more things to climb on. I also suggest that you reconstruct your climbing vines so that they are lifted off the ground and suspended in the air. Chameleons in nature do not like being on the ground, they prefer to be in tall plants/trees; when chameleons are harboring on the ground it often means they are sick. Also you really need a screen cage, some people have gotten away with using glass for their chams, however most of those people are very skilled with chameleons and know how to properly care for them. As an inexperienced cham owner, I suggest you get a screen cage. Do you have a drip system for you cham? Very cool looking chameleon by the way and grats on becoming a chameleon owner.

alot more folage is needed, they like to hide and more climbing stuff. if you are going to keep the glass cage you need more ventelation, fans or somthing. but the best thing to do would be to get a nice big screen cage! much better for there health and i think your cham should have a bit more space, the bigger the better!;)

Hi all...thanks for the replies....i will try to tell you a bit about my situation and Trixxi's set up ect:i got Trixxi 3 weeks ago,her prev owner had her for 2 years,in this time he has keept her in the same viv as you can see in my pictires,glass and a mesh top...it has an exo-terra hood with 2 spiral bulbs one is an exo-terra UVB repti-glo2.0 26w 220-240-v the other is an exo-terra UVB5.0...we also have a ceramic heat lamp with a wire surround that is 150 watts max 230v,this is clipped on the tank outside the mesh from above(see pic)she has always had sand at the bottom of the tank since her prev owner had her and has layed several times without any problems in the same place within the viv....so i am reluctant to remove the substrate in case she refuses to lay again and become egg bound.When she came to me she had no vines or real plants and only 2 artificial plants(she is still very wobbly when it comes to climbing the vines i have put in)but really seems to enjoy climbing them!i have also put in a real plant(creeping fig)the humidity levels range from 40-70 after spraying which i do 3-4 times a day,we had a waterfall but got rid after hearing the neg feedback about it and i am dripping an ice cube from the top of the viv onto the real and fake plants...Now for the fun bit.Temps!!...at night her temp(with every thing off)gets down to 62...during the day it gos up to 82(trying to get correct readings is a nightmare!using sevral thermostats and a digital one that i can move around the viv.Feeding....i give her crickets 4 in the morning-4 in the evening also 1 locust in the morning-1 in the evening-i dust with cricket dust 3 times a week(as prev owner)and was advised to start giving her NUTROBAL from a reptiles shop owner i spoke to for advice(haven't done this as yet as i am waiting for some feed back from all u guy's out there!!)she also LOVES wax worm(trying to keep to a minimum!)and will take mini mealworms...haven't weighed her as yet,will do soon and let you all know

Alot of people on here are going to tell you to get away from the reptiglo compact bulbs and go with the reptisun 5.0 tube lights. I would get rid of the sand just because the previous owner had it like that doesn't mean it is alright. Like mentioned above if you have the funds for a screen cage 24x24x48 is what you want, exo terra and zoo med repti breeze make these and are the ones I use. Good luck with your new Cham

Welcome to the forum

Guys this person and cham are in Ireland. Most in that part of the worls have to use Glass due to temps & humidity problems. That is normal and ok.

You do need more plants, live ones are best. Most important is to get rid of the compact flourescent bulb (the little sprial one) they are very bad for chams. Get a long tube type of UVB bulb. PLEASE do this AS SOON AS YOU CAN.

On the other stuff like the sand, I just don't know what to say if that is how she was always housed.

PLEASE removesand, compact bulbs (unless you want your cham to go blind) get a way bigger cage, and do it all NOW

substrate=impaction
CFL bulbs=blindness,
glass=stress,
little cage=stress

Hi all....again thanks for all the replies.Do you think i should remove the exo-terra hood altogether??and what about the heat levels??are they OK??Unfortunately i can't have a screen enclosure(i would love to!)due to the weather(rain,snow and Lot's more rain!)here in Ireland keeping the temps up would be near impossible!:(And I'm also to scared to remove the sand in case she becomes egg bound(thinks she has nowhere to lay!)at the moment i am trying(nightmare!) to upload some more(detailed)pic's of her set up....thanks again for all the feedback..I'm trying not to freak out to much:eek:
