So I just received my new blue barred ambilobe today, and he was drinking and eating just fine. Now he's turned dark brownish black and has just been sitting in the basking light with his eyes closed. I'm kind of worried.

I just got him today, and his basking spot is around 88-90 and its around 75-80 in the rest of his cage.

He's a blue barred ambilobe panther chameleon, male around 4 and a half months old and I just got him today.
I have not handled him once yet
I fed him around 10 crickets today gut loaded with oranges and they were dusted with herptivite with D3
I use an automatic misting system that mists every three hours for 20 seconds and I did see him drink it

I have a metal screen cage
I use a UV sun bulb and a daylight blue reptile bulb
I measure the temp using a digital thermometer
I am using a pothos plant and fake vines
It is located on my high dresser, there is an air vent somewhat near it but i dont really think it would be a problem. the cage floor is about 5 feet from the floor
I am located in the east coast of the United States

I am worried about why he is so dark and sun bathing with his eye closed

I dont know how old your chameleon is but thats a little to hot im going to say. You should fill out the info that gary posted.

Eyes closed is not generally good. How long has he been doing that? They do take some time to adjust to their new location and he probably needs to warm up. Going dark and sitting under the basking lamp would be perfectly understandable (they go dark to absorb the heat better).

There is stickied topic in the General Discussion forum about basic care, you should check out those links.

I think baby panthers should have a basking temp of around 80 and as they grow up the temp by 5
Ambient should be about 70-75.

That's what I have for my little panther anyway

Yes, thats great. But the whole eyes closed deal is not a good thing, maybe post some pics of him.

Where did you get him from?

how often are you dusting with herptivite? That should only be used about once or twice a month. You should mostly be dusting with Phosphorus Free Calcium WithOUT D3.

I called the breeder and he assured me everything is ok, and today was the first day I ever dusted the crickets since i Just got him

Great :D Glad he has gone back to his normal colours

Its easy to panic and stress when it's your first time with these animals, i know i did a lot when we got Peanut.

Stick around, read some previous threads :) Ask as many questions as you like and keep us posted ;)

Would love to see some snaps of your little guy eventually
