Hi tayandsteve,

It's a little hard to tell what is happening with your little guy...if there is something that looks dry and crusty that is within reach I might try to very gently pull on it with tweezers and see if it will unlodge itself. If it seems to hurt Doobie or is hard to get out don't force it. It might be a good idea to try to get that whole area moistened with warm water for a little bit so anything that might be stuck gets softer and easier to get out. I know they can get impacted hemipenes where old sperm plugs get stuck, and that may be painful so he's acting a little weird because it hurts...

You said he feels cold - what are the temperatures in his cage? Since he feels weak I would say we need to know about the rest of your setup too. Can you give us brief answers to these questions?

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

Looks to me like it's just his boy stuff. I don't see any sperm plug hanging out or anything there that shouldn't be there.

The area where the hemipenes are stored looks swollen to me. There shouldn't be any poop in that area since the poop comes out of the vent IMHO. Can't say if its a sperm plug or not.

Even though you have said that you can't take it to a vet, I think that's the best option since you have said he is feeling cold and you said you can see how "weak he feels and he fell and hes like more able to bend thn ever cause hes so weak". If you talk to the vet he/she might arrange some kind of payment plan so that you could afford it. If you can't afford a vet than I would recommend that you get it to a rescue place ASAP...because you are saying he is weak, fell and is cold IMHO it needs to be dealt with right away.

If you start pulling on something with the tweezers and you don't know what you are doing you could be causing damage.

You said that when he defecated "there was a orange or yellowish sack"...if this is the urates, then it sounds like your chameleon may be dehydrated.

Sorry I can't give you any better/different advice.

the temp in the cage is anywhere from 60 to 80 usually we spray him and the cage atleast 5 times a day on the least it looks like the brown thing is more exposed now his but usually isnt as open. but his testicles just started getting bigger. and the other day he had pink coming out of his but. were just gonna put warm water on him. were very over protected and wanna make sure hes ok because i never seen him fall before and feel weak plus he hasn't really been eating

our tank is like 3feet by 1 feet wide id say about. and we got reptiglow day w and reptiglow uvb flouresant light 8.0

I think you should find a vet, even if you have to make payments surely a vet somewhere would work with you, if that's not an option I know you don't want to consider this but perhaps there is someone in your area you could surrender him to that could afford vet care for him.

Our motto is if you can't afford the vet, don't have the pet, because of things like this. I'd hate to see him suffer and pass on simply because care couldn't be had for him.

Please copy and paste this form and with as much detail as possible.

https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/

Filling out this form will help us pin point anything in your husbandry that might cause health problems in the future.
As for what you already had put for lighting, you might want to change your 8.0 to a 5.0. The 8.0 puts out more UVB rays which can be harmful to your chameleon. If the thing hanging out is a sperm plug it should come off on its own.

I don't understand how you can say a vet is not an option. When that creature crossed your threshold you accepted responsibility for them. That includes medical attention when needed.

The vet may very well work with you for payment options. If not and it pains me to say this-surrendering him to a person that can take care of them properly including Vet bills would be the decent thing to do for them.

If it breaks your heart then get him to an experienced vet before the situation gets worse and more expensive to fix. Sell something on Craigslist that is sitting in the corner collecting dust to cover it. He is your responsibility so don't let him suffer.

It would still help if you can post your information on your setup as to help you out for problems NOT to occur in the future!

I agree. I hate to chastise people and I don't mean to sound harsh, but the fact is, your cham needs veterinary attention. Refusing to give him that is nothing short of cruel.

I just took my bearded dragon to the vet on Tuesday, despite the fact that I am a broke college student and I can't afford to pay my rent or bills for the next two months until I get more student loan & scholarship money in January. But until then, I'll borrow money or sell stuff or something. He needed to go to the vet, and the lives I am responsible for always come first. Always.

You guys really arent helping with trying to get this person the right information they need to help this poor cham. Yes they should take it to the vet but stoning the person for saying they currently have no funds for a vet isnt helping......

Definitely fill in "the form" so people can, in fact, help you.

To me it sounds like what was hanging from his vent was a sperm plug. Once dry they are very organic and "tissue" like. Sperm plugs aren't harmful and if one is hanging down, it's okay to grab it and gently pull.

I would draw the line at reaching in with tweezers. If you are sure there's something stuck in his body that shouldn't be, try rinsing gently with sterile saline solution (like people use for contacts. Ask the pharmacist if the product is just sterile saline solution because there are lots with moisturizers and things you don't want).

Your chameleon needs a basking spot of around 85 degrees at this age. Lacking that, he might have trouble digesting properly which could lead to odd looking poop.

I've said it before, and will say it again, I'm not a cham expert, I'm not even going to say knowledgeable. But I know what it feels like to not know what's going on when your cham is sick, and to rely on others. But if the OP can't fill out the form to help people help the cham... everyone is kind of stuck.

Secondly, I don't know that any of us on here are vets. AND if even they were they couldn't diagnose an animal without actually seeing it. There is a time when people can help online, and there is a time when an animal needs a vet. I believe that this is one of those times.

Again not to be rude, but I had to re-read the original post like six times, and still don't think I have it all deciphered properly because it's written in a manner that is very difficult to read, so if the facts aren't straight it again makes it hard to offer suggestions.

Note: I find people looking for free or cheap chinchillas all of the time as I raise them. I turn them away, because if they can't afford the animal, how will the afford the care? We take these animals into our homes, they don't ask to come in ( although I have a couple cats who seem to do so ). We are responsible for them like we are for our children. I understand times are hard, we are a family of four living on one income while I go to school full time. I've been a single parent working, going to school, and not getting any child support, but my pets were ALWAYS provided for when they needed care. Don't they deserve it? ( getting off my soap box now )

and im unemployed right now trying to get a job. i have interviews, trying to figure out my money situation to bring him to the vet. at the time i could possibly afford a vet but in my new money situation i do the best i can for him IM TRYING TO BRING HIM TO THE VET but until my first check comes in for whatever 1 of 3 jobs will hire me(hopefully) will go to my chameleon
so please dont banter me for being selfish considering im extremley broke. how much to bring him to the vet?

Vet are great with billin after the visit. And so worth it. Expecially if your worried, cause when you think about it. How much money have you put on your litte one? Enough to keep him well for a rough 100-200$? Not to bug, but quick info. Ill let a experienced member fill out the symptoms.

If you are just feeding your crickets "quencher gel" that's probably not a sufficient gutload. The crickets need food before being given to your chameleon.

You do not need the blue bulb. If you are using the blue bulb at night, you should turn it off. Your chameleon needs darkness to sleep. Which Reptiglo bulb are you using? The ExoTerra site does not show an 8.0 (maybe I missed it). Could you go to their site and link us to the description of the bulb you have. Not all bulbs are created equal.

What kind of plant was in there and do you know what killed it? (there is no such thing as a "cham plant")

Is there a herp society in your area? Perhaps you can find an expert locally who can assist you.
