so my chameleon is a panther around 2 and half to 3 years old. He’s had some dry poop on his vent, however today it looked bigger so I called the vet, I thought it might be a rectum prolapse but looks different to images I have seen. Since speaking to the vet it has got considerably larger and I’m very worried. He can’t see a vet till tomorrow hopefully yall can help me understand the issue, sorry for bad picture quality I tried as best I could but he doesn’t like being close to my mobile for some reason. Please any info appreciated muchly, I’ve been very worried about him

It does look like some sort of prolapse but the image isn't that helpful. This is an emergency. If you have some KY jelly or Vaseline, dab some on the exposed tissue to keep it moist.

Never had to deal with it myself luckily but make sure the tissue doesn't dry out.

Keep it clean and moist, I's also make sure your cham can't cause trauma to it, so you may have to put him in a temporary enclosure with a sterile branch for him to sit on.

I can't tell from your pictures but I'm wondering if that isn't his hemi-penis. No matter what part is prolapsed it needs to be put back in. Any water based lubricant will help protect it.

Ok thank you for your help, I will make sure it keeps moist, as long as I do that he should be ok until he sees the vet tomorrow right, what do you think

Yeah sorry my phone is bad and the angle was awkward, I will keep a close watch on him thanks for the help

I forgot but how do prolapses even happen ?

They often happen if the cham is constipated or straining to defecate. That can happen if they are chronically dehydrated or there is too much chitin (a high percentage of prey with hard exoskeletons), or if they happen to ingest something indigestible such as bits of bark substrate.

Just like someone else mentioned, KY Jelly (or any water based lube) and Vaseline are something good to use.
I would go more towards water based things like Aquafor, gels, etc. Water based won’t clog anything and absorb way faster into the skin.
