Hi

I want to buy 2 chameleons male and femal and I want a few answers:

1- How can I feed them, because I bought dead insects from the reptiles shop ?

2- Can I keep male and female together in the same glass cage ?

3- What size should the cage be ,can I bring the size I want or no ?

4- What should I put in the cage just clod and plant ? which one is best the soft sea sand or plant clod?

5- How can I water them ?

6- what's the best light for them sun light or lamp (60 watt) ?

you can't keep the chams together because they will stress eachother out also you said a glass cage that's a no no your chams should be in a screen enclosure so they can get the proper airflow....what kind of chams

and how should they make eggs if I didn't put them together !?
and I still want an answers for the other questions.
 
if you goole the word reptarium they will show you what an all screen cage is I am online from my cell phone so it will take very long for me to post pictures lllreptiles.com has them bluebeast has them bigappleherp.com has them they are all over

i never tried to feed dead insects can you get live crickets..wax worms,etc?
2- Can I keep male and female together in the same glass cage ? it is not recommended

6- what's the best light for them sun light or lamp (60 watt) ? sunlight is great if you can keep them outside..they also need uvb...if you are going to get it from the natural sun it cannot pass thru glass or plastic

I am not extremely familiar with where your from but I would think that a more desert type reptile would be a better choice of a pet than a tropical one, just my opinion...

You asked..." How can I feed them, because I bought dead insects from the reptiles shop ?"...chameleons won't eat insects that are dead. They need to be alive. You need to feed the insects a nutritious diet before you feed them to the chameleons and you need to dust them with a phosphorous-free calcium powder just before giving them to the chameleons too. Most insects that we use as feeders have a poor ratio of calcium to phosphorous.

The chameleon needs exposure to UVB also. It can be from direct sunlight or from special UVB bulbs. The light from either should not pass through glass or plastic. The UVB exposure allows the chameleon to produce vitamin D3 so that it can use the calcium in its diet.

To ensure that the chameleon gets its vitamins, you may want to dust the insects before feeding them to the chameleons a couple of times a month.
Be careful with the vitamin A though, because if too much preformed vitamin A is given, it can build up in the system and prevent the D3 from doing its job and lead to MBD.

If your chameleons will only be getting UVB light from artificial means, then you may have to dust the insects a couple of times a month with a phosphorous-free calcium/D3 powder too. D3 from supplements can also build up in the system, so don't overdo it.

You asked..."Can I keep male and female together in the same glass cage ?"...you can keep them together for a month or so if you buy hatchlings...but once they are three of four months old they need to be separated. Its recommended that you don't mate them until they are sexually mature and the female is full grown. When you want them to reproduce, you show them to each other and observe the reactions. If they are both reacting in a receptive manner then they can be put together to mate. (I will explain more of this later if you remind me.) As for a glass cage, they are not recommended for use in areas where the weather is hot all the time. Screen enclosures are recommended in those circumstances.

It can be ingested and cause problems. If you put live plants in the cage, be sure that they are non-toxic and washed well (both sides of the leaves). The chameleon needs some branches to climb around on too.

You asked.."How can I water them ?"...the cage should be misted so that the chameleon can lick the water off the plants. Drippers should also be used (except if the chameleon is only a few weeks old). The dripper can be as simple as a plastic container with a tiny hole in the bottom or as complicated as an automatic system that comes on for a few minutes several times a day.

You asked..."what's the best light for them sun light or lamp (60 watt) ?"...sunlight is always best. A 60 watt ordinary light bulb is okay for a basking bulb, but you need a UVB light for the reasons I explained above. Appropriate basking temperature is important for good digestion.

Females from some species can produce eggs (infertile, of course) and once they are sexually mature, you need to make sure they have a place to lay them.

If you haven't decided after reading all of this, that keeping chameleons is too much work, then I would still recommend you learn as much as possible before you get some!
 
Hey,UVB rays dont go through glass,unless you keep them outside(in a separate cage) youll need a uvb bulb because chams need uv rays to survive and not get metabolic bone disease. GL man:) i kno how hard the choice of chams are lol,get a panther chameleon,good attitudes i find.

Hello I would not house the two together. Use a screen cage instead of the glass one. Glass is like a mirror and chams do not like to see other chams. This will stress them out. I would invest in 2 screen cages. pothos are good plants to use. use a dripper to water them also mist them 2-3 times a day for 5 minute periods let cage dry completely b4 misting again. i would not put a sand on bottom ill post pics of my cage soon.

It's (veil) chameleon and I will put it in my room but first

1- just phosphorous-free calcium/D3 powder is enough for in and out side vitamin ?

2- How many insect should I put in a day ? how many times in a day ? should I dust the insect of the two vitamins every time I put them for the chameleon ?
3- how many times should I spray the leaves with water in a day ? what's the quantity of water ?

note: now you think that my room is very cold yes some king of cool (cold ) but don't worry I will set the light and the heat so the weather will become kind of humid . And don't forget that I'm going to put the plant and the bedding.

My room temperature is very normal it's not hot and not cold,
And don't forget that I'm going to set the light inside the cage ,and I will spray the plant with water twice a day
So the weather will be some kind of humidity inside the cage.

You dont want to put the light inside the cge it could burn and harm your chameleon....
 
On top of the cage though, not inside it.
Also, the basking light should be mounted on the outside shining in.
You'll want to get a thermometer so you can moniter temps in the basking spot and lower cooler areas of the enclosure.
