Hello iM Getting Ready To Buy ALL My Supplys For MY Baby Veiled Cham That iM Getting From FLChams (as soon as i setup the cage of course), So How Much Do You Spend oN Your Chameleons Vet Visit aNd Medician. Please Reply

WhY Do YoU WrItE LikE ThIs? It wont get you any special attention...

I've spend a few thousand dollars on my chameleon care, supplies, vet visits, etc. Just each setup, done well, is about $350. Vet care is expensive as not many vets treat chameleons. Unless you breed your food, you'll spent a lot on that. the chameleons themselves are expensive. Very expensive hobby.

You dont always need to take them to the vet asap.

But do you know about the vet part. i already got all my supplies down, i just want to know how much people spend on there chams vet/medication only.

can you give me like an average price spent per month or year. please thank you

Depends on where you live and where you go, the last visit I had cost about 95 dollars and that included a fecal sample that turned up positive. Meds themselves just cost me another 11 dollars, and I'll want to do another couple fecal tests within the next four weeks so... Each fecal test will cost me 29 dollars and I'll get at least 2... So 95+11+29+29.... his first visit cost me 164 dollars well spent. As stated before, chams and reptiles in general are not easy to keep nor are they inexpensive. Is this your first reptile?

$10-$20 on fecals. Done a few times a year
$50-$100 per visit
$0-$100+ on treatment per issue

those are just very rough estimates that depend on the vet and how well he does his job. It also depends on how you take care of the chameleon.

I've seen people spend well over $1000 on just one issue with a chameleon. there are also issues that are resolved with changing a $15 light bulb.

yes this will be my first reptile. so you spend like around maby 200 a month for your cham.

It depends on the cham. I havent had to take my cham to the vet yet. hed had a fecal done by the place i bought him from, which was negative. My cham has been healthy so I havent needed a vet visit. but time will tell.
It just varies cham to cham. Some people may never have to go, some will go all the time.

Agreed.. The only thing you have to do often is get the fecals done. VERY important

So i guess what all you guys are trying to say is if i take care/reseach more about my soon to come cham, then i wont have to spend that much on my cham vet right??

I would say regardless, there are some things that you can't prevent. Not to push the topic but I do want to emphasize that regardless of proper care, there is a chance of an issue. This is the life of a very very delicate animal you are going to own, and no matter their temper, they will find a way to your heart.

You can take care and do all the research you can, but that wont change the individual chams health. Some chams, like people, are just prone to getting sick, having problems etc.
Some people may recommend doing a fecal every month, personally I do one every 2-3 months. SInce they can get parasites from their feeders.
Sometimes, geting a fecal doen wont even require a vet visit. you can collect the dropping, take it to the vet, and they will perform the tests. if its negative, you continue on your way, if its positive, they will probably make you bring the cham in and then provide the appropriate medication.
theres no way to estimate how much you will spend on a vet.
If you want to get some sort of estimation, call your exotic vet, and ask them what their exam fees are, and if they are willing to do fecals for you without having to see the cham each time, and how much the fecal would cost.

Exactly, if you keep the cage clean, if you feed him adequately and gutload the feeders properly, having the right lighting setup, water and mist enough, etc.. you'll have less problems but it doesnt mean you wont have any.

I'll do 2 maybe three a year. Depends. I have them outside now so I do fecals more often.

My cham vet recommends well check ups every 6 months but we normally see the vet more often than every 6 months. Had a vet visit yesterday for two chams and 2 fecals and the cost was $158.00 and that included one medication.
