questions about water quality & aluminum screen

1. Here in Syracuse,NY we have excellent water, was going to test my tap (what I drink) for a pH level besides that, would there be any concerns using my tap water for my habitat ?

2. Need aluminum screen mesh for my enclosure that will eventually house a larger chameleon species most likely verrucosus, Was wondering if any one knew the best screen to buy to keep my cham's claws safe & the feeders in? Went to home depot to see what was the biggest mesh size they had for window screen's, and it did not seem large enough.

Thanks

as far as the water, I use tap and that is all I have ever used. I really think it depends on your water. Alot of people use Reverse Osmosis.

i use tap water for hand misting but distilled water lengthens the life of automatic misters and foggers because the water has nothing in it so its kinder on the machinery. sounds crazy and pointless, but trust me. it adds years to your equipment.

how big do you want it? the screen is the same as you would get if you bought a reptibreeze, and other screen enclosures. The screen in question is good for cham's because the grids are small enuff that water will accumulate vs go thru as much, and chams will lick the water off the screens. /shrug

The verrucosus is kept in the reptibreeze 2x2x4 by many so no issues with screen grid size.

Not crazy and pointless at all! Before RO filters were readily available I spent years fighting mineral buildups in pumps, on ultrasonics, humidifiers, etc. I'll always install an RO filter wherever I live!

i use distilled water and make ice cubes. put 2-3 on top of the cage in the morning and let them melt and drip down into a plant

Ha, so have I, well filtered any way! I use a triple function PUR for the ice cubes and to fill our reservoir too. No mineral build up either way and it removes all the chlorine, etc.
