After 8 long months of searching and waiting lists I will finally be receiving my trio of Rare Earth line Red Ackies next week. Cant wait!
Any other dwarf Monitor keepers out there?

No, you lucky lucky person!

I looked everywhere for these and can't ever find them when I have some $$ to spend. For the life of me, from all the positive press they've gotten about how cool and easy to breed they are, I can't figure out why there aren't many more available out there.

Thanks :) I looked hard for close to 8 months. I wanted an adult breeding pair but those are impossible to find and when you do there is something wrong with them.
I'm starting with a trio and hopefully get 1.2 but I'd settle for 2.1 :) These are my first monitors since I was a kid so I'm super excited :) I've been building a large enclosure to keep them in even though they only get about 24"long. It will have about 16" of substrate for burrows and hopefully a nice little nest to lay eggs in down the road :)

Almost as hard as finding a cbb Kimberly rock monitor!

LOL

Maybe I haven't kept up with the times but the press on the ackies used to be that you just kept them hot with light on 24/7, deep earth substrate to burrow into and fed them like mad and they would produce clutch after clutch of babies.

I thought they would be another bearded dragon, veiled chameleon or leopard gecko.

Yet they seem very difficult to find 20 years later.

My Ackies have been a blast! Thought I would update the thread with a few pictures. I love all of my Chameleons but these guys are so active and watching them hunt and east is amazing!

The red on these guys for such a young age is so sweet!

It seems like they are always in a state of shed but thats great because they are little chow hounds

I have cork tubes in the enclosure that I drilled a few holes into. They like to watch me as much as I like to watch them.

Very jealous. I love ackies. They are unfortunately illegal in my province even though black throats and savannahs aren't... crazy logic up here I tell you. Green tree pythons aren't legal but emerald tree boas are...
Do you find them to be smart?

Thats crazy. It makes you wonder what people are thinking when laws or codes are created. Guess we have to keep fighting to keep our reptiles where ever we live :)
