got the results back from the vet my poor little guy has ascarid eggs. i think its some kind of roundworm but i dont know much about it so if anyone knows any info on it feel free to chime in. i was perscribed some de-worming meds to give him the next 5 days then another fecal test 7-10 days after im done with the meds to make sure they are all gone.

what were his symptoms? I am just a newcomer to this (about 5 mos) and I am always trying to learn. What are the symptoms of a parasite.?

That is a hard question because a parasite may have very little outward symptom for a time until the chameleon has a very heavy parasite load. That is one of the reason a lots of us have regular fecals done on our chameleons. Some parasites can be seen in the fecal matter by the naked eye. I can't give you all the signs of a parasite because unless you know the animal really well you might not see the very subtle signs. I would say to make it a practice to have a fecal any time you get a new chameleons, and at a minimum every 6 months after for each of your animals. For someone like me with around 20 chameleons, it can get pricy but my chameleons deserve it and are worth it to me. Hope this helps.

Hey there,

It's tough to speak about something we're really not sure of. My advice would be to contact your vet and discuss these details with them. They can speak to exactly what they identified and should be more than happy to answer all of your questions. :)

Good luck with the little guy!

like laurie said symptoms of a parasite are hard to spot. thats why parasites are so good at what they do they are good at hiding. i only got my cham (his name is Booger) in april so its been about 3 months and this is my first one so it was hard to spot symptoms early. once you see obvious symptoms its already too late and the parasites are settled in and doing the worst damage. Booger started getting lazy, acting weird like he was uncomfortable and then at his worst point i caught him sleeping early in the evening before lights out. thats when i knew something was very wrong and decided to take him to the vet i didnt know what was wrong yet but the next day i found fresh poop and worms coming out of it which was the obvious symptom of a parasite lol. but i got him to the vet asap and just started his first dose of meds today so hell be better soon
