Rex's vet trip......so nervous

On our way to the vet. Still haven't found a reptile Vet that we trust yet so this is a new one we are trying. They say they know chameleons, but so did the last one who had no clue.

He has a cut or something in his mouth. I noticed redness and swelling on one side. I cleaned it out and it's still bleeding so off to the vet we go.

So far I'm impressed, had to fill out a 2 page questionnaire about diet, gut loading, outdoor time, lighting etc.

And we got to hear his heart.

Wow that's interesting. Out of Both vets I have visited I haven't filled out anything like that. That's impressive:)

Sounds like a good vet so far! My vet doesn't have us fill out forms, but he asks all the important stuff. I always bring in the "how to ask for help" form to make it easy for them. I started bringing in modified versions of the form for all my pets.

Good luck and I hope he makes a speedy recovery!

Sucess!!! She knows about chameleons! !! She was so shocked that he is so healthy. She said she normally sees them in bad shape because most people don't know how to take care of them. She said it's really not bad and she doesn't want to do something aggressive and stress him out unnecessarily. Going to treat with betadine for a week then come back for blood work and X rays if it doesn't get better. Going to bring George to her and after the holidays to investigate his edema.

So happy to find a good reptile Vet finally!

That's really good news on the vet and Rex. :)

The vet we saw is Dr Finkelstein at http://www.missionpetemergency.com/locations

For anyone in San Antonio I highly recommend her. She normally sees exotics on Thursday nights from 6pm-9pm.

Sadly, she said she almost never sees Jackons because their just don't usually make it. She sees young ones and occasionally an older healthy one that was in good hands.

Here is our poor unhappy boy.

Thanks for sharing..
Quick change of subject..
Do you know if he adds a ring to his horns every time he sheds?
Thanks!

Awww I hope Rex gets better soon. Glad to hear you found someone you can trust! That's awesome! Poor little Rex! Keep us updated! :)

I am so pleased you were able to find a great vet. Cant have pretty Rex unhappy.

If the vet is willing you could give her a couple care sheets, and the info to get on the forum. Thatcould help a lot of keepers without the knowledge to care for their Cham.

Yes, we will be going back on January 2nd so I will be sure to bring some info.

Thanks everyone. It's so nice to have support. Rex is doing well, he just hates me swabbing his mouth twice a day and I hate upsetting him. He is such a strong boy.

Ugh, I hate this so much. Whenever I put the betadine on w a Q tip, the area starts to bleed again (I am rubbing very softly, but need to get some inside). I think tomorrow I will try just squirting it on there. I'm sure he is going to hate me after all this.
