So our new baby has arrived (not home yet but will be in a few hours, gotta wait for the bf to pick it up).

Here's a pic tho... ImageUploadedByTapatalk1365613202.780261.jpg

I know it's hard to tell but what's everyone's opinion. Is this a sambava baby or was I duped?

There is no way to tell when young or even as an adult. You can only go by the colours of the animal and what the breeder said.

Sadly our whole seller never said. Just said between 3-6 inches but I know he buys between 3-5 weeks! Dang. Oh well I'm still pretty tutting excited! First panther wooooo lol

3-5 weeks? he ideally should be at least 3 months old before he is taken home by anyone. Just be careful with him as they are even more delicate as this age.

We currently have 2 clutches of hatchling veileds of our own. He wanted to buy our babies but I won't let them go yet lol. Not old enough in my opinion.

He/she/it should be okay. But I'll be vigilant with it nonetheless.

I see you are in Ontario. There are a ton of Sambava's going around at the moment. Looks like you've got a girl there. If you got it from a reputable store, they can give you breeder etc...

Yep I'm in ontario lol. Wasn't aware sambava a were going around. I'm sure I can check with the whole seller.

A girl? Really! Woo. I'll take more pics when it gets home cuz that was my next question lol

The baby looks like a little thin and like it has a bruise or something around the eye. How is the appetite on the baby?

I haven't seen it in person yet. But the pic looks like the tail is a bit nipped.

When it gets home ill be giving it a good once over and more pics will be uploaded for sure!

just curious how you can determine that it is a girl without looking at the vent area? color means nothing at this age.

I was wondering the same thing. Mainly cuz I've never had to sex panthers and I thought it would be a bit before we could tell... Idk lol. Not that it truly matters to me at this point.

there is no way to tell the way you are holding your chameleon as you are covering up the vet area and sometimes it is still very hard to tell on some of them that small but many can be sexed out of the egg from experienced breeders I am told.

To bad it's not as easy as it is with veileds lol.

As Sambavas begin to mature most of them have a signature "u"bar . Mine had like a "w" bar which is not as common but sometimes present. The cham in my avatar is a Sambava. They are usually green and have dark maroon bars when resting. When fired up they display orange, yellow and reds. They also can go through a "blue bar" state when young.

Reefer, you weren't wrong about its tail. It's defiantly been nipped or something.

Can anyone give me their best guess at the sex via the following pics?
