I have had a few inquiries about a cham I have for sale. I am in California. Is it legal to ship a cham to Hawaii. If it is, is there any special paperwork involved?
Thanks

Note: Native to Yemen and Saudi
Arabia, veiled chameleons are
invasive and illegal on Maui. This
means that it is against the law to
import, breed, keep as pets, sell
or export veiled chameleons.
Penalties: up to $200,000 and 3
years in prison. The Hawaii
Department of Agriculture has an
amnesty program where
someone can turn in an illegal
animal without prosecution. Call

Jackson's Chameleon

In 1972, the Jackson's Chameleon (Chamaeloeo jacksonii) was introduced to the Hawaiian Islands from its native land of Kenya and Tanzania. In the last 30 + years, these species have multiplied and formed a large breeding population on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii.

Thanks everyone. I had thought it was illegal but I wasn't sure. Thanks for clearing it up. That guy in Hawaii will have to find another way to get his chameleons.

Yes that is correct. The Veils are not allowed to be sent here to Hawaii. The Panthers are a different species. I know some people with panthers whom I asked. They said that the veils are against the law to be shipped. So dont ship any veils because they will get sent right back to you.

Yes, I checked with a pet shop owner. Veils are no doubt not allowed to be imported. Panthers on the other hand, and varies turtles, are able to be imported. So yes, panthers can be.
