Skittles - Red Bar Ambilobe

So yesterday I modified my Reptibreeze cage in preparation for the arrival of new baby Ambilobe to pair with a new female I picked up in July.

I put some polycarbonate twinwall sheets in to cover the sides and back, I have a piece to fit over the bottom door but will leave a gap of around 2 inches along the bottom. I placed some sheeting over the top of the cage also but left cut outs for the lighting to get through.

I have also ordered a sheet of acrylic to cover the top door. hopefully this will help with keeping the temperature in, give good humidity levels but also still give good air circulation.

My new chameleon is roughly 11 weeks old and is believed to be a Red Bar Ambilobe. His sire has beautiful markings and shows both red and Blue barring so I'm sure mine will show the same when he grows.

Here are some pics:

awe he is adorable and I love how you put the green wire in there so he can climb on the sides without hurting his nails.

:) AWWW, so cute. I love the wire idea also. May still this idea myself. Due to get new baby soon. Hope you keep up the pics so we get to see how he colors up.:D

He's very cute! I would normally say to add some extra vines, but with the wire you may not need to. Great idea!

Nice setup! I have a question, whats the purpose of the sheeting over the top? Also are you using a dripper?

Pretty sweet. Love the name. I wanted to use it for my little guy too, but my girlfriend was insistent on keeping our Greek god names continue. I want to get a reptibreeze so bad so I can leave mine outside, and not have to worry about the hawks.

The reason that I have the sheets over the top is to try and keep some of the heat inside the cage. Once I have my clear plexiglass cover for the top door and then place the other sheet over the bottom door it should help stop the heat from escaping so quickly. Over here in the UK its started to get real cold of a night time now so I trying to maintain as much heat for the little guy as possible. At the minute during the day now with the sides covered and the top, ambient temps in the top section are around 74-75f and that's with no cover over the door. Before I covered the sides and top ambient temps at the top were the same as the room 68-70f. So I'm hoping that by the time I add the front door covers there should still be good air flow, an increase in humidity and an increase in the ambient temps :)

I don't use a dripper at he minute with the little guy, I'm lucky enough to be at home a lot so I just mist him 3-4 times a day. Still waiting to see him eat but he has been drinking so m not too worried yet, he has pooped a few times though!

I had the Greek god name theme going until I saw the sire of this guy and he was so colourful, reds, yellows, blues, green. Just like a bag of skittles! ; )

I love it. It's just so amazing an animal could naturally become so vibrant and beautiful. Your guy looks like he's already got some pretty cool color going on for his size. I'll be anxiously awaiting picture updates.

So I decided I would add some extra pics today seeing as though its been a month since my little guy arrived.

He is in the middle of his second shed since being with me. :D

He has definately grown. He temporarily had to be put into a small exo as his set-up was too big I think and he couldnt quite grasp the whole cup feeding concept. But now he is back in his reptibreeze until he gets big enough to go into his XL cage.

Iv been gut loading his live feed with DinoFuel - both normal and raptor edition so im hoping for great colours when they start to show. :D

Oh he is so cute! He looks friendly too (mine would be hiding from me and my camera).

he hasnt been too bad although he can be shy. he still wont hand feed yet though, but he is roughly 3 1/2 - 4 months so theres plenty of time :D

I'm not really catching on to what the green wire is on the inside of the cage. Is that something you bought pre-made or did you some how make that?

The green stuff is plastic fencing. I've modified the inside of the reptibreeze with plastic sheeting to help keep up humidity and stop water spray going out the sides and back of the cage. The green fencing just gives the chameleons something else to grab onto now the mesh is covered over. :D

Gotcha! Thank you for the helpful explanation!
