Very nice looking Female Okiroo!
Joanna - this is your reminder. lol.
would be great the see the whole viv and the way you have it set up. Im in 2 minds as to whether or not to keep the male I have for sale, or simply just invest in some taller vivs. the space I want to occupy (An alcove)would fit 2 of your sized vivs in but id lose 5cm in width and depth and only gain 12cm in height which probably still works out the same amount of space. I love the vivs I have at the minute but they both won't fit in the gap! doh!
Yeah was thinking about pairs un each but not sure. will have to look more into it. How do your pair lime their cage?
Lol. like their cage! They both kept in the same cage?
I have had pairs together, mothers with offspring, mixed generation juveniles and have not seen any overtly aggressive behaviors. Many keepers housing 1.1 or 1.2 adults together have stated that this is unproblematic, and that has been my experience. I think if there are multiple, quality basking sites and always a few extra feeders crawling or flying around a large, well branched (or vined) habitat, then hoehnelii seem to get along quite well. Often I think I am seeing the females wearing the pants.
i have not experimented with leaving the male in with babies along with the female. i personally just go off my gut. i separate the babies from the mom also. I hear all is fine but i dont take chances with life i guess.
Well I thought would keep you all updated, I don't think my female is pregnant. Not just yet. the reason I say this as only 30 minutes ago I was doing some uni work on the computer in my office where they are kept and noticed out the corner of my eye the male bobbing away creeping closer until..................
Yes ladies and gentlemen - magic happened! Surely if she was already pregnant, shoe wouldn't have let him mate with her?
Just curious though. less than 5 minutes later she had a poop and it looked like a little something extra came out with it. Could this stop her becoming pregnant? I hope not!
Well it was kinda foamy around the poop, but there was something quite gelatinous around the the urates.
Anyways! Im super happy to know that at least some mating has happened and fingers crossed it may happen again over the next few days. But, I'm looking forward to some July babies all going well!
No, No worms, she has been eating Crickets, Hoppers and Soldier Flies. they didn't like calciworms, waxworms or silkworms that much.
If I were you, then I would make sure that she has several different basking spots available: one in the high 80's one in the mid to low 80's and one in the high 70's. Do this with small halogens 35 to 50 watts, but dial in the temps carefully as you don't want to add alot of ambient heat - just warm spots.
