You need to remove all potting medium, and use wine cork or something like that as potting medium, the roots transpire a small amount, also, 5 consecutive day temps over 80° f and the phal will abort the flowers and start growing

lol ive got two large side by side windows in my room so my room gets so much direct or indirect light in the evening, facing west we get about 7-8 hours direct light in the summer, might grab one or two more mini phalaenopsis orchids

@salty dog I have many large vandas, those were my weakness. Lol! In fact, my issue is hard to find species plants were my weakness. I've been growing them for over 13 years. I moved a decent sized collection from North Carolina to Michigan.

In North Carolina, there was a fabulous orchid greenhouse a couple of miles from where I worked. It was easy to get an orchid fix and I really liked the employees. When we moved back to Michigan, I joined the local orchid society so I could continue to be in the loop. It was not the best experience for me. I didn't find it worth taking time away from my kids and husband to go to the meetings because there were many who had poor attitudes.

As for my windowsill, I have 8 plants in it. I'm sure it'd be easier not to have them, but one or more is always blooming, so I can't see downsizing. My Lepanthes calodictyon has been in bloom since last fall! I attached a few pics of my "windowsill orchids".

I love the small low light, jewel - dendrobium- bulbophyllums, the flowers look extraterrestrial..so cool!! I have a lot of paphs & bulbos.... to say the os people or aos are a little unsettling is a huge understatement, they are the most self reichteous elitist assholes on planet earth...decades of unchecked elitism doesn't help them at all

I volunteered to help my local society and I was left in tears on a number of occasions. I'm significantly younger than most of the society, the way many of the members spoke to and treated me on a number of occasions was definitely not okay. There were many times when I witnessed many of the members yell and demean one another. They were catfighting in their 70s and 80s, full on yelling. I am just to sensitive of a person and don't want to deal with that, growing orchids should be relaxing, not stressful. That is why I no longer regularly go to meetings.

Yeah, terry Glancy from florida, Deerwood orchids from ca. You & myself and numerous others are victims of the aos egregious elitism, you are not alone, it is a bummer because there are so many neat & extraterrestrial looking flowers & plants
