Some ppk are just

He looks to be in great shape all things considered. I'm glad you took Gizmo home and will give him a better life.

A word of caution though, I would not leave him unattended outside freeranging on your lanai. Too many chameleons have wandered off when owners were not looking. Bring him inside for the night. You can keep him in a large rubbermaid with a few sticks, in the bathtub on a plant, or even a small enclosure.

I second the bath tub idea. It works great in a pinch for an escape-proof temp home.

So he's been black all morning looks like it, I did move him to my reptibreeze 18x18x36 I moved my small fem to the smaller cage until I get one for him.

My wife is off today so I got her checking up on him. She said it looks like he's only ate maybe 3 crickets out of the 10 I pit in the cage, he is also dar and now he is on the bottom of the cage. Should I be concerned? Or is he just curious about his new place?

Edit: I guess he is now climbing on the back on the cage heading up, and he is not as dark, I did tell her to turn off the basking light.

Thanks in advance

Who knows how he was kept before you got Gizmo. Look at how he was kept the last few days so it wouldn't surprise me that he is feeling very shy and stressed. You definitely want to keep your eye on him, but I would put the cage in a low traffic area of the house until he settles in a bit more. Offer him food and water but really leave him alone. Not using the basking lights will create a darker cage so it will be harder to see you and your family but he won't have an area to bask so I would leave it on. I'm not sure where you are located but if your weather is warm enough the sunshine will do him wonders. Again, just make sure he can't get away. Despite our warnings about freeranging outside (I know your lanai is screened in) every year several people lose chameleons outside.

Keep us updated on Gizmo!

Great job saving the poor lil guy he looks awesome. I second the post about the tail possibly being some retained shed and as said a quip with some mineral oil with a gentle rub should help to loosen it up.

Congrats on your new boy Gizmo!

Who knows what other creative caretaking took place before you got him.

I hope he thrives in your care and is long lived :)

I live in FL, we gots lots of sunshit for sure , he is very shy, he ate only a little today I offered him via my hand a superworm but he won't eat it (not surprised) he's probably getting used to the cage. I noticed he is very skinny I'm going to try to feed him good. I just ordered some dubia for both my chams, I hope he likes them. There is a habiscus tree in the cage he is in and he seems to like to hide in it.

Regarding sunlight I'm going to leave him alone for a couple of days and then hopefully I can take him out and let him take the sun on my potted ficus I can easily move that tree outside of the lanai.

So great full for all the help here from everyone.

Small update, he is still very dark, he ate crickets dusted with calcium w/o D3 today and yesterday with multiV. He ate he's crickets (I didn't see him eating). Finally saw some poop, it has good coloring and the white part had some mucus on it and a little bit of orange and good amount of whites.

I moved him today against the side of the lanai where he will get the late afternoon sun rays. He should get good rays even if they are going through a screen, right? I estimate he's going to get around 1-2hrs of sunlight.

He has a dripper and I am trying to mist the cage 2 or 3 times a day. This is his temp cage until I get another one or build one

Here r some pics

Not much if any UVB will pas through two screens. He will need a UVB light.

I bet he will turn those pretty colors if you allow him to FR on that tree again. :)

I know I wanted to get him out of the cage to put the tree outside , so he could be directly outside on the sun but he wouldn't let me get him out he was hissing at me. Any suggestions? I really want to let him take the sun and put him on the ficus he loved it there

If you do take him outside to FR on a tree you will have to watch him every single second. We had a hawk at our house lately and they also get down and run away very quickly when you are not looking. If he's on the screen porch you could open his door and put the tree in front of it and see if he will climb out on it. Watch him from a distance. Veileds can be territorial and cage aggressive.

Do you have two in there? If so, they need separate enclosures so they don't fight or stress out. Kath.

Just zoomed in and it's casque and angle I was looking at, can see its just the one now. Maybe time to get my eyes seen to :/
Kath.

Great job on saving this guy from a terrible fate! If your lanai is long enough, I'd put him on one end, and leave the door open, like Jann said. Then, you can sit on the other end of the lanai where you are close enough in case anything happens, but far enough so that he feels comfortable to explore. Take a book out there and enjoy the sunshine. He's been through a lot lately, so some hissing is normal - he's just trying to get acclimated. Best of luck with him! :D

Took him out of the cage today, he's always black , I was able to get him out by leaving the cage open and a stick by the door when he got on it I got him out. Took him outside along with Pacha (my fem cham) to take some rays, pacha was on my shirt for a while then she climbed on the other side of the stick but keeping a distance .

As soon as he came out he's colors cleared. After a good 30m of direct sunlight I placed him on his favorite spot, the ficus tree.

I'm starting to wonder, what if he was a wild caught cham? I know in that area where the girl who had him lives there are some wild chams that ppl sometimes grab. Just a thought I had.

Anyway
