sooo I'm not sure what's wrong with his eye. He moves around perfectly fine and is able to get his food when he's awake, but when he's asleep his left eye looks like it is open but he is sleeping. I'm hoping its nothing too bad because i've been saving up a Squeeb fund for a new bigger home for him, but if its needed im gunna have to spend it on a visit to the vet :(
does he look like he might be dehydrated?

What kind of UVB light are you using?

Is it compact or tube?

Could be a result of compact lights.

Or

He may have got some dirt or something in his eye.

Buy some basic eye drops.

The solution kind only...make sure there are no additives.

It would help us make an assessment if you provided more info on your setup.

Hope this helps.

I know your saving up however I would have that check out by a vet. I have seen similar eye problems and they with some eye ointment are very curable.

You may want to free range him on a big house plant if he out grows his cage until you can up grade.

I have him in a cage kit i got from screameleon. hes in Zilla 18"L x 12"W x 20"W cage with a ZooMed 60 watt daylight blue reptile bulb, and ZooMed reptisun 5.0 uvb. Its a pretty standard cage but like i said earlier I was planning on buying a 48"H x 24"W x 24"D cage but i guess i might have to go to the vet.

yea im aware im probably going to have to wait a little long for a new cage for the little guy :\
how do you put the ointment on?

The cage and lights seem fine.

You may want to check on the placement of the UVB light.

Make sure the cham receives UV at the same time he receives heat from the basking light. (They do not know how to differentiate lights)

What are your Temps? Humidity?

Ok well it sounds like everything is fine.

I would recommend the plain eye drops to rinse his eyes.

But before you do that you can even try steaming him in the shower room for about 15-20 mins.

For this, you place him on a plant and put the plant in the shower area.

Make sure the water does not spray directly on him, make it bounce off the wall or something.

This should provide him an opportunity to clean his eye himself.

If it were me, I'd get some of that antibiotic eye ointment...Terramycin. It's prescription only in California, but OTC every where else (and, lllreptile has it). That just looks like an eye infection to me. I'm not basing that on chameleon knowledge but MOM instinct...

So, obviously, I could be totally off base, but it just looks like his poor little eye is too infected to close properly.

should i still visit the vet? and how exactly do i use the ointment on him?

Im not sure on the vet or how to use the ointment but the shower should be warm enough to steam up the room. Not hot enough to burn.
