Spiny Dino help!!!

i am open to anything you experienced people think i should try. but for now i think i will really focus on these showers and getting water in him with as little stress as possible.

If you decide to use something similar to gatorade use the flavorless pedialyte at a 50/50 watered down solution. Pedialyte is much better than gatorade and provides more benefits. Otherwise this is great to wake up to. Hoping he keeps drinking for you, I am so glad he arrived to you alive. Keep him in the shower as long as he will allow and as long as your water cooperates. <3 so much hope for you guys.

i wil make sure to get some as soon as i can leave him be on his free range. should i take him out when my water gets cold?

Definitely, unless you are able to make it warmer. Once I can no longer make it warm or the chams show the desire to leave, I take them out.

Why are you using a shower when you have a MistKing???? The MistKing mister is a lot better than any "shower method." I suggest you put him in a hospital cage and run the mister for an hour or more at a time and leave him alone.

When critically ill animals are stressed as this one has been, they often crash. They perk up for the immediate stress--shipping, your handling him, a new environment--and then they die. Don't be surprised if he dies. And if you get him through this crisis, don't be surprised if he doesn't live very long because if he is emaciated or dehydrated as severely as he looks, he likely has suffered damage to his kidneys that will eventually kill him.

Sorry I am not more optimistic but unfortunately, that is the reality of an animal in such poor condition. It doesn't help that you don't have much experience (based on your questions).

I am not expecting him to thrive and get better and live for a very long time I don't get my hopes up just to have them crash down. That being said I am providing him the best care I think he can get . Yes I am asking a lot of questions most of wich I have my answere to and are usually right but I still want to ask them because what if there's that chance that I'm wrong? All of that being said I would love to see him recover and find to be that he has not suffered from any major damage yet . All I am doing is trying to give him hope wich it looks to me that he has been fighting for and did perk up more as he got on to his free range .

he is still going strong(from what strong looks like in this guy) taking his last shower before i put him back to his range and let him relax until night night time. I have pretty high hopes for this guy right now and will probably call a vet tomorrow and get an appointment scheduled in for about 6-7 days from now.

Just so Joshua doesn't forget to mention, his Dino has been opening his eyes on and off. Been drinking really well on his own, and has taken a water/pedialyte mixture on his own when dripped onto his lips, .5 cc was the starting dose today. Of course mistings and such have happened too.

thank you very much for mentioning that im running off steam right now with only that small 2 hour nap within 36 hours now as i have crunched to get Dinos free range alllll setup within 48 hours.

You need to sleep. I know the mania taking care of rescues can cause. Especially when an emergency situation crops up.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery!
He's looking much calmer in this photo, not as much what I perceived as "stress colors".
I hope he recovers, and that you can provide him the long healthy life he was denied previously....

@joshuadh2310 Why are you using showers? You have a mister--a MistKing--which is a MILLION times better than any shower. Leave him on the free range and run the mister. You need to reduce stress and changing location is stressful as is handling him to get there.

I hope you have the dripper securely anchored. The screw cap can fail with weight of the full dripper reservoir. I'm sure you've done it but just in case. I know you have been scrambling and that might have been missed. He could knock it off if it is only balanced on the bracket.

i will try some misting as well. and yes it is secured. I have made a vet appointment with east orange animal hospital in Orlando for Wednesday at 11:30 so i think that will give him time to get back on his feet and hydrated for his 2 hour car ride.....

Honestly, I think what you are doing will kill him.

I don't think you understand what happens with a critically ill chameleon. The vet is not going to be able to stop him/herself from giving subcutaneous fluids. That will probably send the animal into shock. Your animal is likely to die.

They only have so much energy and he has expended a lot being shipped. Then you moved him in and out of a shower. You have stressed the heck out of him! And now you want to take him to the vet????

What is the vet going to do? All he can do is give subcutaneous fluids and I bet that in itself will kill him.

This animal does not need a vet. It needs good care. The vet will kill it. Then you will come here and say how you tried everything not even realizing you made sure it had no chance whatsoever. Your actions and the vet's will doom it.

I'm sorry if I sound heartless and critical, but that's what is happening.

@jpowell86 Can you please help explain this. I am completely failing here. You've seen what happens. Joel, I understand that this one is likely doomed, but maybe what you say can help another one. Please back me up on this. And if I'm wrong--that a Wednesday trip to the vet might be a good thing--I need to know.

No, you're completely right in what you are saying. But, I think this particular animal has unfortunately already passed away if I saw the threads correctly.

Yes the animal has already passed within the 36 hours of being in my care. Your information wasn't really helpful at all rather than just being negative and saying well it's going to die so just leave it alone. Thanks for the response but if I wanted someone to be my Debby downer I would have asked for it. I tried to save an animal that was too far gone before even getting to me. Sorry I felt the need to try but I hated to just sit there and watch it die. If me giving the animal water killed it in your eyes than no one could have saved him anyways.

You are gravely mistaken if you think my information was only negative. You completely missed what I was saying. "I tried to save an animal..." is not justification for dooming it. Sometimes you just have to call it a day and not try. Trying causes pain and suffering. And is often expensive. @jpowell86 Am I explaining this correctly? I've had a couple of glasses of wine with my husband and I'm a very very cheap date.
